Life & Work with Phyllis Parker-Bertun

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phyllis Parker-Bertun.

Hi Phyllis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have had a career in Health and wellness for over 30 years. It began with a strong passion for the workings of the human body, both the physical and psychological, which is exemplary in my collegiate fields of study. I had a personal passion for creating a strong, healthy balanced body. I enjoyed cardiovascular workouts, lifting weights and stretching. Function and alignment were my focus. When introduced to the Pilates Method, it fit! – Core, Spinal alignment, mind/body focus. I believe when a student is ready, the next teacher will appear. That was Yoga. As I moved into energy work, my passion for yoga grew deeper. I felt, I had finally arrived to meet my Dharma. Yoga is much deeper than just an asana practice, it is the focus of the mind, with the breath. It is a path to identify, clarify and be all you can be. That is why I am now a Yoga Teacher Trainer 200/300 hour.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A smooth road would not provide learning as I tell students in yoga. For it is through the struggle that we grow. My personal struggles were in marketing, technology. I have created a yoga program for those less practiced in yoga. Which came to me after listening to my students. Supported yoga w/stability ball. I wrote a manual and do teacher training. It is a flowing sequencing with transitions where you do not stop. It matches a vinyasa flow. This program is not what you see on internet, which is mostly just playing with the ball. It is a flowing sequence with modifications to fit the needs of those less practiced.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have a passion for Yoga and the philosophy to apply to everyday life. I am meticulous about form in a posture, finding the correct alignment for your body. When the physical body is aligned, you draw breath in, you become absorbed in the posture and the mind lets go.

To fully practice yoga with me, you learn the philosophy that supports the practice, through private or group sessions. I teach 8-week series Yin Yoga and Chakra healing. 8 Weeks Yama’s and Niama’s as we flow. 4-week Series Moon Flow.

I hold monthly New Moon meditations for women. Animal Card reading/meditations.

I use zoom and Facebook members group and teach at city facilities.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
