Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel O’Connor.
House Made Pretty is a full-service home organization company, led by owner Rachel O’Connor, committed to providing clients with beautiful, perfectly organized spaces. Rachel came from the corporate world and after years of focusing on corporate event planning, decided it was time to take on a new adventure (an adventure that included fewer weekends now that she was a mom to two small kids). She grew House Made Pretty from word-of-mouth recommendations and cemented her place in the high-end world of luxury interior organizing. Rachel’s attention to detail, thoughtful space planning and Pinterest-worthy aesthetic results in gorgeous, yet sustainable, solutions.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to where House Made Pretty is now has been hard-fought and tiresome. That said, I’ve never heard of anything worth being proud of being smooth and easy. Is it easier to clock in and out every day and grind for someone else’s dreams? Heck, yes! BUT someone else’s dreams are not what motivated me to get out of bed every morning. To show up at my client’s house ready to give my everything… to get them to a place where their home TRULY became a place of the peace order. There are late nights, early mornings, sore feet, tired backs and lots, and lots of coffee. At the end of the day, I’m just so proud of the company that I’ve created, the spaces we’ve completed and the trail of happy clients we leave along the way.
Please tell us about House Made Pretty.
We work with Dallas’ most discerning clientele: from the high-profile business elite and professional athletes to stay-at-home moms. We serve those who want their home to be clutter-free, refined, and impeccably styled. We use custom labels and tactics to create a visual masterpiece for each client. This isn’t your mama’s organizing service. Well, unless you have a super cool mom.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I have found that the best method of networking is to leave each client RAVING about how hard you work, how trustworthy you are and how thrilled they remain. Those clients are happy to link you to their designer, neighbor, sister, friend, etc. Once you break through and can be trusted by their inner-circle, you can’t keep up with the demand.
Another point to this is to realize when to ask for help! No one is an expert in everything. Focus on your strengths and outsource your weaknesses.
