Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Scruggs.
Rachel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Sports and fitness have always been a part of my life at a young age. My dad had a track club, the Arlington Flyers, which I joined at the age of six. I played other sports growing up, but the track was something that I was good at. I was on the Varsity track team all four years of high school and received a track scholarship to run in college. Once my collegiate career was over, I still wanted to be part of fitness in some capacity. Training taught me to drive and self-control, so I wanted to be able to share that with others. I developed a passion for transforming my body and wanted to help others reach their fitness goals. July 23, 2015, was the day I decided to launch my own fitness brand called Fit 29. Today, I train both men, women, and children to achieve their fitness goals and ultimately live healthy lifestyles beyond their sessions with me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Creating my own business was no easy task. In the beginning stages, I was a one-woman show, but I had to put my pride aside and realize it’s okay to ask for help sometimes. If it wasn’t for my family and close friends I would not have been able to find success in getting my business off the ground. I would advise and young women who want to start her own business to truly look at her friend group and find out who is going to support you whether it is financially, spiritually or even just by sharing your business via social media those are the people you need on your team. You do not have to do anything alone!
Please tell us about Fit 29.
I am a Certified Personal Trainer, but I also teach group fitness classes. Men are part of my clientele, however, women and young girls are my focus group solely because it’s important to me for women to encourage and uplift one another. What better way to do that than by pushing others to be their best self. I am most proud of how far Fit 29 has come from 2015 to now in how more people are becoming more aware of the brand itself. As this happens I’m able to create more content for my business. There are tons of wonderful trainers in DFW, but what sets me apart from everyone is that when people work out with me its like they are working out with family. Everyone I train becomes part of the Fit 29 family, so many of my group training classes are like huge family reunions where people are pushing to be their best selves.
Who have you been inspired by?
Beyoncé is one of my biggest inspirations because she is simply a Boss. Nothing stands in her way and she is truly fearless and goes after what she wants. It’s good to go after what you want in life because you don’t want 5-10 years to pass regretting having not done something.
