Life & Work with Stacey Owens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Owens.

Hi Stacey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
For years I lived a very unhealthy lifestyle and decided to one day get serious about my health. I joined a gym, where I started in a cardio room. Then I found a trainer and began to build consistency. I did all that I could at the time, which was not a lot. The harder these workouts became, the more I realized how important recovery was to keep consistency. I began to really look into massage.

I lost 100 lbs and then I felt ready to go into a field of recovery to help people keep the consistency that I needed to achieve what I did. So after 20 years of working in the service industry, I went back to school for massage therapy! There I met my future business partner, Billy Akins, who had also lost 100+ lbs and had similar goals with his career. Then after school and some time working at a chiropractic clinic, we decided to start 33 Sports Massage. We have set out to help our clients manage pain, increase performance, relax, and achieve better body mechanics. We want to help everyone live everyday in their prime!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Smooth roads do not exist! Well, at least for most people. Going from being a heavy smoker/drinker and developing good habits alone was very challenging. Then taking the risk of leaving an industry, I was comfortable with going into something totally different had its own stresses. Of course, my goal of becoming a business owner was a big financial and time-consuming stress as well. After putting in the work it took for that weight loss, I don’t fear any of the challenges of business!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Massage Therapist/Business owner/CFO. By appearance, I wouldn’t look like someone who would have a presence in the world of sports. In reality, I know the dedication it takes and what people will put their bodies through to meet goals. I am still on a journey of fitness myself and I understand these struggles. This translates to me being a very driven therapist. I get great compliments from my clients on my massage and stretching techniques. I am competitive and I think our brand 33 is going to be the premier local sports massage business in just a few years!

What were you like growing up?
I was basically your average kid! I had a really good childhood up until eight, when I watched my dad battle cancer for three years before passing away. That obviously changes the course of how your childhood goes. I was and am still a huge reader and enjoy books by Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and Anne Rice!
