Today we’d like to introduce you to Stella Everett.
Hi Stella, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started a little over three years ago, I wanted to make my own bouquet to save money and I decided to watch some YouTube videos & check out Pinterest to get some inspiration. I watched a few videos they went out and bought a few supplies, maybe spent $25 to make a few because I knew there would be some trial and error! I then started to create something, not knowing really what it would look like. After several tries and a few family opinions, I finally had something presentable. I was excited that I saved some money by doing it myself! So for fun, I thought let me post this on Facebook and marketplace to see if I get someone to actually like it or inquire because since I was about 18, I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, it was just something that always gave me life inside when I thought about it and I’ve always had people tell me I need to run my own business and that started at a young age at around 25. I really don’t know exactly what they saw me that I thought I could run a home business, but it’s something that has always resonated with me and I’ve tried one million different things lol, over the last ten years!
Long story short, I receive some interest from people on Facebook marketplace asking me to make a bouquet or two for them. Even though I didn’t have a lot of photos and didn’t have a lot of experience, I said to myself, “I can do this!” The most exciting part was that I had finally found something I truly enjoyed doing and could make money from it. Fast forward to about a year ago is when I really started to get busier with orders and my Facebook & IG page started to grow and my extra bedroom and anywhere else in the house was being completely taken over by craft stuff! I knew I would need another space sooner than later to really focus. I tried to learn as much as I could about my craft so that I could be set apart from others. Because I was serious about this, this was not about to be a hobby for me… I wanted to be a full-blown artificial florist. I had a degree in business and always had a passion for running some sort of business, so I kind of knew some about good business ethics, so that part came easy for me.
The more excited that I became about this, the more I was thinking of ways to expand on Bridal. I decided I wanted to do intimate wedding events and back in August 2020. I decided to start looking at spaces to not only have a space to create my bouquets but to also to be able to do intimate weddings. The space is not allow me to be able to allow other people to utilize it for Popup shops, baby showers and other small events. My business is growing and I’m super excited about what the future holds. I am going to meet some wonderful people hosting pop-up shops every month and looking forward to what the future holds for Brides on a Dime Bouquets. I will be adding Bridal dress rentals late summer or early fall 2021.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road, but the road has always led me to believe this was what God truly put me here for. Of course in the beginning of any business, you’re struggling with figuring things out such as finances, time management and making sure this is what you’re supposed to be doing with your life. Despite days that are frustrating or days/weeks without orders, I am glad that I stayed the course. Trying to juggle a 9 to 5, have time for yourself along with friends and family can be a struggle, but figuring all that out is part of the process and not so smooth road.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create custom wedding bouquets, flower arrangements and all things wedding. I specialize in bridal bouquets, I can pretty much create your dream bouquet. If you tell me or give me your vision, I will make it come to life. I can also create your centerpieces, decorate your tables, but I do them all on a small scale. I prefer intimate events. Every month at my venue space in Fort Worth, I host pop-up shops to support small business owners that are out here hustling and grinding just trying to make a living. What sets me apart from others is that I truly make custom products, I do not take anything from the store and re-create it, I do not buy things and resell them, I custom make them and I take pride & care in every single product, every single customer, every single time.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid-19 has taught me even more to appreciate each and every day and to appreciate the moments in life, because as we all have experienced, that in can be changed in the blink of an eye.
