Life and Work with Tiffany Dennis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Dennis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Makeup has always been a passion of mine. I remember wearing eyeliner and lipstick back in middle school. And winged liner is nothing new to me… I was wearing winged liner in high school (but we called it the Cleopatra) Lol!

After high school, I wanted to go to Cosmetology but my mother insisted that complete college and find a steady job with Insurance (smart woman). After graduating from Texas A&M, I got on with American Airlines. Although happy with my job, I still longed for something that would allow me to fulfill my passion. I started doing makeup for friends, family, coworkers etc just for fun. But, once social media really took off and I was able to follow celebrity makeup artist… I used my flight benefits to start attending their classes and training sessions to perfect my craft! So, in a nutshell, I really turned my passion into a business.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road for me was not easy. As a single mother of 3, it’s not always easy working a full-time job, managing a business, and doing everyday mom duties. My biggest struggle is time management. Fortunately, my coworkers know my long-term goals and are always willing to help me work with my client’s needs. And, my family is very supportive as well. Without them, none of it would be possible. However, I do try to take one weekend out the month to spend with family. No clients at all.

My advice for young women starting their journey is to Practice, Perfect and Pray. You must practice and study your craft weekly if not daily. Practice makes perfect and you want to perfect makeup looks for every type of client in ANY type of field. But most importantly… pray for yourself, your business and your gift. There is power in prayer and for the days that I thought I couldn’t do it or when I felt my work was underrated and unappreciated… I prayed.

Please tell us about Tailor Made by Tiffany.
Right now my biggest clientele is Brides and bridal parties. I personally prefer (and am probably known for) enhancing my client’s natural beauty. I think the thing that sets me apart from other artist is my lack of following the “trends”. I’d like to believe my work caters to the everyday woman whether it be photoshoots, weddings, editorial, special occasions or just a date night. I do it all!!!

What advice would you give to someone at the start of her career?
Outside of Practice, Perfect and Pray… I would advise young women to learn to be diverse. Diversity will take you a lot farther in this industry. You want to pave a pathway that will give you several opportunities. The more opportunities you are given to expose yourself and showcase your craft… the more you will be booked. Don’t be the artist that only knows how to do one thing or work with one type of skin. You want to be limitless… not limited.
