Today we’d like to introduce you to Veronica Rios.
Veronica, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
When I was in high school, I was on the drill team. My drill team instructor made sure we had to have on heavy makeup and big bright RED lips with false lashes for our events, at that time, makeup wasn’t really a big thing. I would always do my makeup the way she wanted it, so she would always use me as an example of what to look like. Eventually, the other members would ask me to do their eyeshadow. Then one day, some of us members and my instructor went to the MAC cosmetic store, I was always intimidated to step foot in there. They asked me to be the model for some of the products my instructor wanted to purchase. Let’s just say, I was hooked after that! I eventually started buying lots and lots of makeup and would practice on my friends and myself. Then, about three years ago, I built up the courage and decided to take a leap of faith, and made a Makeup Instagram account. I would get so inspired by other local makeup artists that I would follow. I told myself, if these other artists can do it, I can do it! Here I am today!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There is always going to be rough patches in your journey, but you have to stay positive and motivated to be better in your craft. I am not the best makeup artist and I won’t be the makeup artist for everyone, and I had to learn that. I would critic myself so hard if things weren’t perfect, or why people didn’t “like” my post, or why didn’t people want to book with me. I realized that I had to believe in myself and I had to stop being negative. Because eventually, I would become a better artist and people would ask to book with me, and I became clients makeup go to the artist! So, if you are going through a rough patch or struggling with your craft, it’s ok, it will get better! Stay confident and don’t give up!
Please tell us about Glam By Veronica.
I am a Makeup Artist, I love to make women feel confident about themselves. I believe in making my clients feel comfortable and making them feel confident in me with their face. I feel like many of my compliments are about my eye work and that makes me proud! I love when I receive random people in my inbox wanting to get their makeup done by me. It makes me feel so great about my work! I love bonding with my clients and making friendships. Once you have clients return, it makes you feel so confident and it builds friendships that will last forever! There are so many Makeup Artist, but I feel like we all have a different view of the art, so that makes each one of us different and sets us apart from each other. Remember there is always room to grow and there is room for everyone, don’t step on people to get to the top, we are all apart of this beautiful community, make friendships and keep growing because you can never have too much knowledge.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
I played with my mother’s makeup when I was in the eighth grade, I started wearing lip gloss and liner. Which made me get a bit more practice on myself, but never did I think I would actually want to do other people’s makeup. It was when I was on the drill team, is when I realized that I had a passion for it. I never knew that I would gain the confidence to actually do it on other people. Never doubt your dreams!
