Life and Work with Victoria Vidana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Vidana.

Victoria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a photographer, coffee addict, wife, and dog mom. Originally from a small town in New Mexico, I moved to Dallas in 2015 to do the big-city thing. Photography has always been a passion of mine, but moving to such a beautiful place caused me to put my passion into practice.

In March of 2018 I decided to launch my full-time photography business. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my husband, my family and my church family at Shoreline City here in Dallas, TX.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I don’t think launching your own business is ever a smooth road. I’ve definitely had my fair share of tears and frustrations, but that’s what makes it so beautiful. If everything was easy and comfortable, the reward wouldn’t be as great.

The advice that I would give for other women who are just starting their journey would to be celebrate the small victories and never let comparison hold you down. No matter how big or how small, every step forward is worth celebrating. You can’t allow other’s success to make you feel less than or not good enough. The reality is, they’ve probably been doing it longer than you, and were in the place you are at one point. Let those ahead of you fuel your passion, not diminish it! You have something that no one else does, and that’s because you are you. So run hard, get up when you fall and celebrate the heck out of every little victory!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Victoria Vidana – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in lifestyle and editorial photography. When behind the camera I work to help make people feel comfortable and confident in front of the camera as I capture real-life moments. It’s so easy for people to freeze once they are put in front of the lens, so I try my best to get natural and candid moments out of every shoot.

It’s so rewarding to receive messages at the end of a shoot from a client saying how confident and beautiful they felt. Photography is more than just a photo, there are emotional aspects of it that can heal a broken heart or cleanse a self-conscious mind. A lot of times people walk away from photoshoot feeling so insecure and awkward. I want to change that.

There’s a wealth of academic research that suggests that lack of mentors and networking opportunities for women has materially affected the number of women in leadership roles. Smart organizations and industry leaders are working to change this, but in the meantime, do you have any advice for finding a mentor and building a network?
I’ve found that social media has been a huge encouragement to me. It’s such an incredible place to network and get inspired by other creatives. Most creatives (not all) love to share their tips and tricks, you just can’t be ashamed to ask!
