Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandro Chávez.
Hi Alejandro, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hello, I am Alejandro Chávez Robles, a Mexican graphic designer, and comic artist. I have been into Design since I was 16, I studied Graphic Design (Vocational Technical School) at The National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico. Then, I started college at National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature – School of Design of Mexico. After that, from 2020 to 2021 I learned storytelling and Game Design at Videogames Academy, a school in Mexico City. And now I’m happily working on my comic “O’CLOCK NOIR”.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think it has been great, thanks to the love and support from my family: especially my mom, my aunt, my grandmother, and my uncle. Teachers and friends are also important in my life, I am grateful to my friend Daniel for introducing me to Mario Pons, my mentor in the world of comics. The key is to be passionate about your work, and that’s what designers need. I’m always looking for the right opportunities, sharing my work with love with the rest of the world.
Using social media, going to different kind of events, and meeting people is what helps you achieve your goals!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Sure! Well, basically I’m a graphic and digital designer, that is what I love, creating logos, animations, and graphical user interfaces. But let me tell you, my comic is what I am most proud of! All that pride and joy is what makes my project “O’CLOCK NOIR” so special because it’s about adventure, friendship, love, and taking risks in a dangerous world. So, my comic follows the adventures of Alex Garcia (based on me) and his friends Shigeru and Amy Lady in a world within a film. They’ll have to fight against Bramus (an evil duo of scientists) and their minions called Nu-Vo in order to liberate the world of Tape Di Noir, and all of that happens through different movie eras. It’s crazy how my comic reflects two of my favorite things: traveling and the 1980s pop culture!
How do you define success?
Success is happiness! When you focus your work on making people happy and you share your achievements with the people you love, that is success.
