Life & Work with Alex Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Martin.

Hi Alex, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
In December 2016, I started videography and photography doing social media marketing. At that time, I was working for a popular law firm in the Dallas area. My manager at the law firm was on our media guy’s ass about doing content faster. The manager had a look in his eyes that was like hey, I’m going to fire EVERYBODY if I don’t get media by the end of this event, so I took it upon myself to create content using my iPhone. The shots that I was getting with the iPhone 6 during that time had people questioning how long I had been doing it. It was a natural talent for me.

Fast forward to November 2019, I ended up getting fired by that same manager. Three of my close friends told me that I should take it told me seriously, and from there, that’s exactly what I did. More so on the photography side. Since then, I edited over 2,000 videos and shot over 500 people.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t ever think that there’s a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles was building a brand in the middle of the pandemic in 2020. Imagine trying to provide a service when the news is telling everyone to stay at home or not having anyone to mentor you along that process. I mean, I really had to figure it out on my own. And even now, honestly speaking, I’m going through the same thing again because I’ve started working with big names, and now people feel like they can’t touch me. So now I have to find a way to re-brand myself where people are willing to pay the price and that big names still want to work with me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So, people know me as a content creator. Some people book me for videos. Some people book me for photography. I go through phases where it’s 75% photography and other times it’s 75% video. It depends on the year.

This year it is portraits that I’m known for. I’ve shot many people who book me strictly off of my portraits. A lot of artists and comedians love my portraits. Lil Duval, Kash Doll, Chico Bean, Jonathan Wright, and Reginae Carter, are some of the people that I’ve worked with repetitively this year.

What matters most to you?
That’s a good question. I think my legacy is what matters most to me. I really want to impact people. I really want to inspire people. I want to be this symbol of hard work and dedication. If I can inspire people to be better and greater versions of themselves then I feel that I’ve completed my mission. I want to become a multi-millionaire and inspire others to become one as well.
