Life & Work with Amanda Pybas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Pybas.

Hi Amanda, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child, I saw things differently. I could see variations of colors and shadows, the make-up of objects, and dimensions. The reason I started painting in particular was to instill the memory of my mother who passed away when I was 13. I wanted to permanently capture her memory.

Happiness has been my biggest inspiration. My fulfillment is seeing growth and development in the individuals I interact with.

My journey lead me to intern and instruct at a wonderful art school. There I developed myself as a teacher. I am so thankful for my mentor and friend Kathleen Alexander.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything worth obtaining will never be a smooth road. The art world never ends. I love being a part of something that will be a lifelong adventure. My biggest struggle I face is being overly concerned with my personal development as an artist. I feel this is every creator’s struggle. There are so many doors to open and walk through that I sometimes cannot decide which one to choose.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a professional fine artist and a creative mentor. I have been an art teacher/mentor for the past 13 years. The workday often turns to night. I truly love what I do which has lead me to develop many abilities. I am a painter. I paint everything from surrealism, portraits, abstract, etc.

My skills are not limited to painting. I work in sculpture, paper maćhe, watercolor, drawing, graphic design and storybook illustration, special effects makeup, performance art, prop design, and personal training. As I stated earlier, “The art world never ends.”

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory is filling up every sketchbook I could get my hands on. I had friends and family placing orders at a young age. Little did I know this would be the road I took. I had already found it.
