Araceli & Betty, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hello. We’re Araceli and Betty and together we are A&B Mum Designs. We are mother and daughter duo that enjoy the expression of art through crafting. We found our interest in mum making over 15 years ago when we began creating custom craft pieces for our family members. By popular demand we decided to serve the public in 2023. Our new venture has allowed to continue to do what we love but on a much larger scale. Our goal is to make every item as special and unique as the individuals we serve. Our creations while small, play a big role in making memories for our customers. Over the last year we’ve enjoyed bringing joy to people through our crafts and bringing your visions to life. We look forward to serving our existing and new customers in the years to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle has been finding a way to get our products out to the public to see. Social media has helped tremendously. Once we established a social media presence it’s been smooth sailing since. Our online order forms make ordering easy and can even be completed with a smartphone. Our main struggle now is being fully booked for the season, however we hope to expand next season so that we can fulfill more of your order requests.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
A&B specializes in homecoming mums and garters. Homecoming mums started in the 1930’s and have since evolved into the beautiful works of art you see today. As fellow Texans we are proud to be apart of this long standing Texas tradition. We offer a variety of mums to fit all budgets and sizes ranging from wrist mums to mega mums. We are also known for our personalized graduation lei’s. Graduation lei’s are worn during commencement ceremony or at graduation parties. They are a way for students to show their unique personality during a milestone moment in their academic career. A&B’s high commitment to quality, design, and great service set us apart from others. Our collection of custom imprint ribbon adds a special touch of detail to our work. Overall we work with community in mind and we greatly appreciate every customer.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Our favorite memories include making our own high school mums together. Before the high end mum stores, trips to the local Michael’s or Hobby Lobby were always exciting. Staying up all hours of the night trying to learn how to make a mum then later coming up with unique ways to make them stand out is half the fun. Trends have undoubtedly changed over the years, but the excitement of creating something special each time remains a constant. Above all, the time spent together is what we both cherish most.
