Life & Work with Arthur Graye

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arthur Graye.

Hi Arthur, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! Thanks for having me. My name is Arthur Graye. I’m an artist born and raised in Dallas, Texas and I am the owner of the GreenMan Studios. I was raised in a super strict Christian family and went to Baptist school most of my life. I had my first premonition in a dream when I was six years old. No one in my life believed in the supernatural or had any experience with psychic phenomena so I had no one to turn to. This caused me to be a very introverted child. I voraciously read books on any supernatural topic I could find in the library and kept it all to myself until I was in my late teens. As soon as I was able to, I came away from all of the Christian beliefs (although I had always known that it wasn’t for me) and moved toward practicing Wicca. It didn’t take me long to realize that, for me, Wicca was just as limiting as Christianity. I was interested in finding a sort of spirituality where I could make direct contact with god, the universe, source, whatever you want to call it.

I found that when I happened across an intuitive tarot class. My husband and I went on a whim and we latched into it and never let go. Tarot served as a doorway into spirituality, metaphysics, and everything that we do, still to this day.

In 2009 I opened The GreenMan Studios as a way to help people on their own individual spiritual paths. I know how difficult it can be and it has always been a priority for me to find ways to make it easier as people wake up to their own gifts and talents.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I spent 13 years in retail management. I was miserable the whole time. It’s how I paid for my art degree and I was so unhappy that my health was actually failing. It wasn’t until I found tarot and was able to make sense of my own talents and gifts that I was able to get into a flow and start manifesting the things I actually wanted in my life. When I opened The GreenMan Studios I knew that there was no going back.

I knew from the very beginning that opening the business and helping other people was exactly where I was supposed to be.

Has it been easy? Overall, yes. I listen to the universe when it tries to guide me and I have been very blessed and lucky in the things I have been able to bring to fruition.

I think that in spirituality and metaphysics, you have to be careful, just like with any other endeavor, because there are untrustworthy people who will throw you under the bus. It’s not so different than any other line of work in that respect.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been a creative my entire life. The voices and visions and colors that I have running through my head constantly required some form of outlet. This takes form in paintings, sculpture, jewelry, and most of all photography. I received a BFA in studio art and photography in 2009 and shortly thereafter merged my art with my business, the GreenMan Studios. I am known for my handmade Prayer Beads. I make them in the traditional hand-knitted Hindu method and teach mantra to my students to help them learn to meditate.

Beyond that, I make bracelets, pendulums, pendants, art prints, and many other items that people find helpful in their own spirituality…

What does success mean to you?
My definition of success is ever-changing. I consider myself successful because I was able to step away from the rat race of corporate America and retail and literally build my dream and run my own business. I have been in business since 2009 but I have been full-time for the last five years. The GreenMan Studios has never stopped growing and moving forward. There have been one or two setbacks but I have always been able to overcome them and use the situations to improve what I do and make it stronger and better.

I have been able to stretch out and create some other things in the past few years and I am very proud of them. I have created several divination decks under the name of The Juvel Mor. I have been able to create a new and fresh Holistic Faire called The GreenMan Holistic Faire and I am currently working on a metaphysical directory for the DFW metroplex.

I think, for me, that growth and creativity define success.
