Today we’d like to introduce you to Asma Syed.
Hi Asma, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started my Business purely for the love of art! I wanted to share some things about me and hope that you find it nice to learn more about the person behind the business @hennahouseasma . My name is Asma Syed. I was born and raised in Saudi Arabia. I’ve been doing henna since I was ten years old, something I started doing as a result of my love for art. I didn’t receive any formal training in the art. I used to get first prize in all art competitions like dress designing, painting, caricature, calligraphy.. You name it…
Growing up and moving to United States with my husband Syed, I explored more and more about my passion for art, Makeup and skincare and built on what I have been exposed to sharpen my skills. I took part in various festivals here as a henna vendor..and very shortly, my art gained people’s attention, and I got invited by people to create designs for them at events, birthday parties, weddings and engagement ceremonies. With time, I thought about the need to advance the whole experience from just a hobby and casual applications into a part-time business. Believe me, I never really thought I would end up being a professional, I don’t travel to provide my services currently, but as it is, I am absolutely in love with this profession. It is definitely an honor to get booked by people from all walks of life!
My journey has been forever changing and if I have learned anything along the way.. it is to cut out the negativity in your life and change your mindset on how you should be living. When you learn to replace the negative and dream really big your mindset changes and takes you to places who never thought you would go!
Another very important thing for me is the ability to prioritize the important things in your life and execute it well.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nope 😕 I don’t think any small business owners have had a smooth road (even the most funded ones fail !) Starting a business is a big achievement for me, but maintaining it is the larger challenge. There are many standard struggles I face on a daily basis.
These include things like building my brand, time management, taking courses to enhance my skills, marketing, constantly improving!!
There is something to be said about having a unique style of art. No matter what kind of product or service you sell, our marketing plan our uniqueness to art can make or break our business. Trying to create something spectacular to every client …. It is definitely a challenge!! with a particular focus on brides and weddings .. (to visualize, create and innovate )and I feel fortunate to be one of the artists among others to make her day special.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
.
My business is about creating designs and patterns using Henna.
Henna is a traditional art form that implies applying a paste made of crushed leaves or of the powder of the henna plant’s leaves onto the skin. The paste stains the skin from a brick-red color to a purple-blackish color and can last in its full glory up to a week with good aftercare. Henna is used for several celebrations in many countries, but you don’t need a special occasion to have it applied on yourself. Henna house Asma takes appointments in the DFW area and its surroundings.
I specialize in Arabic henna designs which are more bolder, freestyle and has lots of negative space . I am popularly known for this sheer style of art in DFW and surrounding areas. Also, I am most proud of being able to make my brides feel beautiful and special on their big day!! It’s an honour indeed!!
Henna is done on the bride to symbolize joy, beauty, spiritual awakening & to bring prosperity and chase away evil.
What sets me apart from others is the use of henna and jagua gel to make my darkest blend. Jagua tattoo is a temporary form of skin decoration resulting from the application of an extract of the fruit Genipa Americana, also known as jagua. This fruit has been used for body ornamentation and medicinal purposes in many areas of South America for centuries. It doesn’t contain any chemicals or ppd ( para-phenylenediamine)..
What’s next?
