Life & Work with Aylin Guerrero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aylin Guerrero.

Hi Aylin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I look back at my childhood, there was one thing that made me “stand out” from the other kids, I was a very quiet kid. I was called quiet by all my teachers; this was because of the lack of confidence and social skills. I went to a very low minority school and went into school only understanding Spanish, so it made sense in a way. As a started to get older, the shyness followed me until I ran into a page on Instagram about pageants. This caught my interest and went to my first pageant practice without having any pageant skills and not realizing this would change my being forever. There were many pretty girls with experience, and of course, I was intimidated and wanted to walk out the door. I stayed and enjoyed it.

Fast forward the time, I competed and got the title of Miss Fort Worth Latina 1st runner up as well as taking “best swimsuit” and “best walk” recognition. I was very proud of myself for it being my first pageant. I had practiced for many hours a day and put my all into it. Winning the first runner up inspired me to give myself a second opportunity, I competed and took the crown home! I became Miss Dallas Latina 2018 at the age of 18, and once again, I received “best swimsuit” and “best walk” recognition. This was a huge accomplishment because I had also just graduated high school. The Dallas titled allowed me to activate my platform, which was “Adopt don’t shop.” I volunteered for Petco and many other community events. As well as getting myself more out there, I had the opportunity to be interviewed by Telemundo and many radio stations, this allowing me to grow my social media and working with brands on Instagram. The shy girl I once was became a confident, empowered, well-spoken young lady who was no longer afraid to let her voice be heard.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all! There was many tears and scarifies, I had to overcome during this time of my life, but it was all worth it. I wouldn’t had been able to overcome these obstacles if it weren’t for my mom. She has always been there to support me in any way she possibly can.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I used to dislike being sensitive. But take away that single trait, and you take away the very essence of who I am. The empathy, intuition, creativity, appreciation, my vivid inner life and deep awareness of others’ pain/joy. And my passion for all.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Things that people perhaps don’t know about me is that I play clarinet and Bass clarinet. I also have several pets, I have a dog, rescue cats, rescue pigeon, birds, and chickens! I am a student pursuing a childhood education degree, becoming a teacher has been my childhood dream.
