Hi BADGUY, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is BADGUY! I’m a rapper from Jersey but I’ve been in Dallas for a bit now. I got started writing raps when I was 14 years old. I would remix songs from my favorite rappers and make them my own. I realized music was something I wanted to pursue when I started recording with my first song in January of 2020. I had so much fun with it, and there wasn’t this pressure then of needing to sound good or needing to evolve as it was a hobby. From there, I surrounded myself with other creatives. There weren’t too many that looked like me so I had to pave a lane for myself and the people that would later follow in my footsteps.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have been many challenges along the way, of course. Having to pave out a lane for myself in a world where people aren’t nice is tough. There was a lot of jealousy from my peers and people who I shared my spotlight with in the beginning, and still is to be honest. They have tried to tear me down with every lie in the book. Speaking on me, my life, creating hate trains — Over 6 years of creating art, this can start to get old quickly. Having to keep consistently creating art back to back, in a world where people hear what you have to offer, steal it from you, and try to replicate as their own without giving you a single ounce of credit. It’s tough. I keep my head held high knowing that I have a gift, and no amount of piracy will erase that!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a rapper! I sing a little on the side. I’m most known for being a polarizing figure in my community!, My Mixtape titled 21, which was released on January 3rd,2025, alongside the deluxe which released May 23rd, 2025.
I am most proud of my group called “LuXe.” It’s a music group I created with the goal to bring all types of musical creatives under the same theoretical roof! I’ve helped so many artists get their start, and get their sound together through LuXe. I couldn’t do it on my own and I love everybody involved with LuXe.
What sets me apart from others has to be my unwavering stance in who I am. I’ve never settled for less, I’ve never acted out of my own principle when it came to music & I think I’ve tried to do the most for my community with ACTUAL good intentions. I’m a powerhouse, and a revered figure in my community. I have a heart of gold & I’m so giving to people less developed than I am in the music space & a lot of people can vouch for that.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
When starting music, I wish I would’ve known that this industry is a hard, and fake place. It takes a light to come in and lead the way for others to make it through and eventually develop their own. I wouldn’t change anything, other than maybe not having certain people around me but honestly god probably put them in my view, so we can both learn. They can learn the sauce from me and I can learn how to spot snakes and protect my peace.
My advice to those that really want to pursue music is stay true to yourself, but get out your comfort zone. You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take! Don’t let these haters out here make you feel like you’re worthless to music. As long as you’re confident and open to change — you’ll do amazing!
