Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbara Ivos.
Hi Barbara, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m originally from Croatia, and my journey into health and wellness started with a strong interest in science, seeing my mother take care of her sick parents at a young age (she is an OBGYN), truly inspired me to pursure healthcare, but in a different way… I completed my undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at the University of San Diego, then trained at Bastyr University in San Diego to become a Licensed Naturopathic Doctor, developing expertise in naturopathic medicine, physical medicine, nutrition, and mind–body health. Since then, I’ve focused on patient education through webinars and Q&A sessions, helping people translate complex health information into practical, sustainable changes. Today, I combine scientific knowledge, holistic thinking, and clear communication to support patients in improving their health in meaningful ways.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I wouldn’t say it’s been entirely smooth—every journey has its challenges. Immigrating from Croatia and building a career in the U.S. meant adapting to a new culture, education system, and professional environment, which took resilience and persistence. During my training and early practice, mastering the balance between scientific rigor and practical patient care was also a learning curve. But those challenges shaped my approach—they taught me to be adaptable, resourceful, and focused on solutions, which ultimately strengthened my ability to educate and support others effectively.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently have the honor and privilege to work at Hygieia Wellness Clinic in Mckinney, TX, where I provide highly personalized integrative care. My approach combines my training as a Licensed Naturopathic Doctor with practical experience in concierge medicine and IV therapy from my time in San Diego. I specialize in functional medicine, nutrition, and mind–body health, and I’m particularly focused on helping patients understand their own bodies and make sustainable health choices. I’m known for my educational webinars and Q&A sessions, which allow me to translate complex science into practical, actionable guidance. What I’m most proud of is seeing patients regain energy, confidence, and control over their health—those moments really remind me why I do this, and to help them figure out the why, which many providers do not know how to do.. This is what sets me apart as I can give my patients the root causes and empower them to heal the right way, along with my compassionate, individualized approach, so every person feels truly seen and supported in all aspects of my care.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I see risk as a chance to grow—an opportunity to step outside your comfort zone with purpose. In my career, I’ve taken risks by choosing paths that weren’t guaranteed, especially being in natural medicine – it is an area of medicine not many people understand the value of yet, but aligned with my vision. For example, moving into concierge medicine and IV therapy in San Diego was a professional risk because it meant building a patient base and navigating a highly personalized model of care. Later, transitioning to my current role at Hygieia in Dallas also required stepping into new systems and approaches. I approach risk by preparing thoroughly, staying inquisitive, learning continuously, and being willing to adapt. For me, the risks that feel calculated and purposeful often lead to the most growth, innovation, and fulfillment.
