Life & Work with Bethany Jarrell of DFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bethany Jarrell.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A father-daughter duo is not a common pairing in construction. We’ve been a family run business for over 30 years, beginning with my parents before I, Bethany, joined my dad’s company in 2015 taking on the back office at first. Eventually the needs of the clients moved me into the design space and I offer in-house design services for our clients, partnered with architectural designers, while my dad and brother manage the job sites. We saw how well clients responded to our combined expertise and what we each bring to the company. I have more than a decade of experience in communication and business strategies. My dad brings years of construction knowledge and professional relationships. Our partnership builds on our strengths and brings a lot of peace to our job sites.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my last 10 years with Jarrell Signature, I’ve seen our industry face several significant challenges. 2020 brought price hikes, consumer frustration, and a bleak building future. We wanted to still bring value and beauty to our clients’ homes. It took time to build a reputation for staying steady and giving good advice in the face of adversity. We tell our clients to spend smart money on their homes. We educate them on what to prioritize and what increases in value over time. Now, we build beautiful new custom homes and help take the hypothetical vision of the future and make it a reality.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We get so excited when people bring us their ideas for their homes. We are a boutique building company that specializes in custom homes and large scale remodels. Something that sets us apart is our intuitive design process. We work with exceptional architectural teams but our in house design process is unique. We are set up to take the ideas and dreams of our clients and translate them into real products and craftsmanship. We are not a high production builder, we take great care and interest in our building practices.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Learn to prioritize communication. Our industry has so many resources available to learn the construction process, but a great weakness exists in the area of communication. Tell people when you’re going to show up, how you’re going to build, and when they can expect things from you. Trust is built through communication.
