Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Kerr
Hi Brandon, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Arlington Texas, I started taking art more seriously in the last 2 years when I realized that I may have what it take to create pieces that captivated an audience .
As a child my father, Scott Kerr, would pick me up from school and I’d help him prime canvases since he was an artist. Eventually I worked for him full-time helping with shipping/ delivery , keeping the studio organized, pretty much anything he needed help with. I’d help him set up shows and I would be amazed with all the different artists that were around me. I gravitated to that kind of world .
A lot of emotions are conveyed through my art pieces, each work expressing feelings of joy, love, anger, and sadness. I am truly grateful to have the opportunity and guidance to be able to be a full time artist and support my new family.
I believe art is therapeutic in a way as I am a recovering addict, i have gone through some dark times and those emotions are shown through my art.
My biggest inspirations are music, family, and other artists Kippie Leonard, Parker Heath, and my dad Scott.
It’s a beautiful experience being able to have something you’ve put so much emotion into being showcased for others to see and interpret in their own unique way!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
As stated before I am a recovering addict and before I became an artist it was a difficult road.
Being an up and coming artist can be challenging in some areas especially being a full time job, there’s never a dull moment while creating though, as it’s such a great outlet.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a full time abstract painter, I use everything from oil paint, acrylics, pastel to plaster, pastes, and different fabrics to create textured pieces.
I guess you could classify my as an abstract/contemporary painter.
I am proud that all of my hard work is being noticed by my audience, it’s also a great feeling knowing that my work is getting recognized nationwide! It’s an amazing experience… sometimes surreal.
I am not afraid to change things up and try new things. Art is an ever changing thing that needs to be consistent but not repetitive, i am always looking for new ways to impress my clients all while still having artistic freedom.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
To be patient, giving, and never lose your passion to create. Without creativity life is dull, most importantly HAVE FUN!
