Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianne Moore.
Hi Brianne, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hey love. Thank you for the opportunity to share my why with the community. I excelled at art as a young child. But you know, no one told me that it was possible for art to be my career so I didn’t pursue it. I dabbled with painting in my early 20’s and it honestly didn’t go too well. I hated it lol. I still have the paintings to remind me how far I’ve come. In 2015, at 28 years old, I picked up a paintbrush again, and it wasn’t terrible, to my surprise. Painting was purely therapeutic to me. So, I kept at it, getting better with time. I hadn’t put much thought into making it an actual business until people started showing interest in purchasing. I’m still processing the realization that creating the art that I love is becoming a primary source of income for me. It’s been a journey and very rewarding to hear and see how my work affects its viewers. It’s a great feeling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. My favorite quote lately has been, “life has been lifing.” The global crisis really gave me time to sit with myself and reflect. It brought a multitude of emotions. During that journey of reflection and self-discovery, life was happening. My husband was laid off and began the journey of starting a new company, so that was an adjustment for everyone. My mom was diagnosed with a bone marrow cancer called Multiple Myeloma at the end of 2020, and we felt our world crumble. It drove me further into my creative space, and I began creating the most vibrant pieces I’d ever created. I think I needed to see the vibrancy around me, that life hadn’t dulled and that it hadn’t ended. This was just an obstacle we needed to navigate, and we did. I began to try techniques that I probably never would have tried had we not been isolated for those few months. It really boosted my creativity. During that time, interest in my artwork increased, and I was like hmmm. I can actually do this. It felt amazing.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love creating, so I could talk about my work all day lol. I’m a portrait artist who specialized in very vibrant portrait pieces. My art is always geared towards the vibrancy, joy, and resilience that I see in women around me every day. I create pieces with the intent to celebrate and honor brown women past, present, and future. I’m known for creating very colorful, very bright images that I’ve noticed make people feel good. That’s my focus. Continuing to uplift with creativity. I’m most proud of my perseverance. Life has been lifing, and I continue to roll with the punches. I have many different styles of vibrant art. I think that’s what sets me apart. My work reaches different audiences because my pieces are all so different but have the same undertone. I know the art world says you are to stick with one style, but respectfully, that’s not my chosen path.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My mom is the hero in my story. Yvette Barnes has always been my number one fan. She has always been an example of the saying “I can do whatever I put my energy into.” Until she was diagnosed, she never missed an art show. She talked to buyers more than I did when I first started doing shows because I was a little shy, lol. My husband has always been my sounding board for ideas I have for pieces. He always does the run-through with me before events. When I would get discouraged, he would always encourage me to continue. My two amazingly beautiful and loving daughters constantly tell me how amazing of a mom I am while, often clumsily, balancing work and home life. Other amazing artists, collectors, and customers encourage me and hype me up along the way. I have the best support system.
