Today we’d like to introduce you to Cam’Ron Gonzalez.
Hi Cam’Ron, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, growing up, I was always surrounded by music. As far back as I could remember, my grandfather was always playing his guitars and creating music the whole neighborhood could hear. He taught me everything he could about music. He used to do live music himself back in his day. I have older cousins and tios that have played for major Tejano bands as well, so my interest and love for music sparked naturally. When I was 12, I started writing my first raps. At first, it started as something I did for fun but eventually, I was writing every day fast forward to 2018, I appeared as part of the Coast 2 Coast Festival in Dallas TX. Since then, I have released over 40 singles to streaming platforms online. I have also had the opportunity to open for many established artists, such as Nappy Roots and 24K Magic, “The Worlds #1 Tribute to Bruno Mars.” My most recent release is called “What is a Break,” and I currently am a member of the NMJC Fearless Touring Ensemble.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For me the road has had its fair share of bumps when it comes to being consistent with my craft, I find that I am my own worst critique, and when it comes down to my art every word and every second has to mean something it has to be intentional. In parallel with my career, I also work a second job while attending college full-time. Throughout my journey, I have learned not everyone is going to understand what is driving you, what keeps you motivated, and, in many cases, people will not believe in you. I have had to constantly motivate myself while remaining humble learning that I don’t have everything figured out, but I should take every opportunity to learn as much as I can. The journey has been something I am grateful for, and without the foundations my family raised me on and the love and support they give me, I would not be here today. During times of self-doubt when you think you can’t do it anymore when you think you’re beaten through that storm your reason “why” should be the main drive. Many times, I have said to myself, ” Why are you trying to make it…you’re not going anywhere…GIVE UP!” During those moments, I remember society wants us to be followers, but the harder I push myself and truly know my worth, the more I can have the potential to be a leader.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For starters, I am rapper, songwriter, recording, mixing, mastering engineer, and performing artist and that alone is something that not a lot of people can manage to do. From the age of 12, I started writing music listening to every genre of music I could get my hands on soaking up information. How other music artists articulated a certain verse or how they made a particular guitar melody fit so perfectly with the keys of a piano. From a young age, I fell in love with the very sound of music the arrangement of notes putting together a story the powerful tone of a female vocalist, or the raw flow of an MC. The industry has produced many artists I draw inspiration from when putting together my verses. When I rhyme, nothing is made up it is real; I want to take my listeners to my world I want them to be able to walk in my shoes when they hear my story and be able to identify their stories with mine. When writing a song, I document the reality of my life, and I’ve never been scared to share my pain and struggle. However, at the same time, I love to have fun with my music. I specialize in R&B and Hip-Hop type beats with a mix of blues, and I also really love dark guitar riffs. One of my proudest moments would have to be having the discipline to stick with my dreams and continuing to go all in when making a career choice of be a recording artist it comes with understanding that faith is a major role throughout the journey, I am proud and blessed that I get to travel and perform with the team I have, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Keep the ones you love close and savor every second you have with them. During that time, I took the advantage to perfect my music.
