Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Breakfield.
Hi Charles, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Breakfield, is a storyteller and the CTO of the Enigma Series. He leverages his decades of technology expertise, including security, networking, voice, and anything digital, to bring innovative technothriller elements into storytelling. He has deep knowledge of World War II history, has traveled extensively, and seeks cultural exchanges to learn what makes different people tick. Charles enjoys wine tasting, winemaking, Harley riding, cooking new recipes and extravaganzas, and woodworking.
With Burkey, they have created award-winning stories that resonate with men and women, with a fresh perspective on technology possibilities within a fictional framework. They have two technothriller series, The Enigma Series and Enigma Heirs. They ventured into writing cozy mysteries with the Underground Authors in the Magnolia Bluff Crime Chronicles. Their newest short story collection complements their novella and individual short stories. For more information, we invite you to visit https://www.EnigmaSeries.com.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We started writing tech manuals but became dissatisfied because they went out of date so quickly. The publisher Auerbach was after us for refreshes and more non-fiction all the time. Breakfield said enough is enough but Burkey came back around after three months and offered “let’s write fiction but bake in the real technical facts and call them technothrillers.” Then she handed him the first five chapters of The Enigma Factor and we never looked back.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
First and foremost, Charles is a storyteller. Today’s world is a new battleground for sci-fi and thriller that use technology to help and to destroy. We’ve looked at the cyber threats to data infrastructure for years but lecturing is too much like a standard classroom. We prefer to use storytelling to deliver the lessons of fighting cybercriminals and extolling the craft of the cyber heros. Our character universe and the environment they do combat in is filled with real people we’ve known and real threats we’ve seen. We are quite proud of our Enigma Series universe.
How do you define success?
When a reader tell us, thanks for a fun story. It pulled me in and your story felt real.
