Today we’d like to introduce you to Chris Kinsel.
Hi Chris, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started DJing High School dances at 18-years of age in 1980 as I started my on-air DJ radio career. I have DJ’d in several cities all over the United States. I arrived in Dallas in 2017 and have been entertaining with my vast knowledge of music and reading a crowd for dancing for all kinds of events, specializing in Weddings as well as providing professional Emcee services. I have a variety of lighting and special effects. I also work full time at a Christian Radio Station, KCBI.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggle has been keeping up with technology. I have gone from playing records, to CD’s, to MD’s (mini disc) and now digital music. I entertain now with the ability to take requests on the fly using streaming DJ services. Lighting has also changed over the years. I now offer Cold Sparks, Up-Lighting, Dancing on a Cloud, Monograms, and even Photo Booths.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am known for my planning and execution skills, especially at Weddings. My planning APP helps to create detailed timelines and the ability to have clients pick their music on their phone or computer. I also over a variety of playlists to help the music selection process easier. My unique and smooth transitions keep the dance floor packed.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
As a kid, I would take my portable record player to garages in my neighborhood, playing music and dancing with my friends. My sister and I would compete in dance contests on a regular basis and often get 1st place.
