Life & Work with Clayton Mullen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Clayton Mullen.

Hi Clayton, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
While still only a senior at Texas Christian University, 22-year-old Clayton Mullen is quickly becoming one of country music’s newest artists to watch. Growing up in the Northeast, Clayton was raised with little ties to the music industry, yet he quickly honed his craft and found his sound while cutting his teeth in Texas bars. His first taste of full band shows started by playing tailgates and parties in his fraternity, Sig-Ep, at TCU. Through opportunities by Josh Abbott Band, Randall King, and Corey Kent, Clayton has been able to jump-start his music career before even graduating college. Clayton released a four-track EP titled “South of Forever,” in June of 2022 and quickly followed up with fan favorites “Like That”, “You Me + Country Song,” “Whiskey On It,” and “Sell This Truck”, amassing over four million streams to date. His next single, “Where The Time Goes,” pays homage to his 4 years at TCU. Its nostalgic feel and driving melody make this song an easy-to-listen summer jam.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some troubles Clayton faces have a lot to do with balancing his professional career and school. As a full-time student and graduating senior, Clayton is enrolled in 7 classes. While managing his classes and social life, he plays shows on the weekends. The trouble comes when he has a 10 am accounting exam on a Friday and a bus call for the weekend trip at 2 pm.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Clayton is a country artist who ties modern melodies and lyrics with real instrumentation. Taking influences from both red dirt and pop country, Clayton poses a contemporary take on what we know country music as today. His most memorable moment of his career would be playing Billy Bobs to a home crowd in Fort Worth, opening up the show for the Josh Abbott Band. This show was just 3 days before TCU played in the National Championship.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The music and songwriting community is very small. Artists and writers support each other every day and connect with their fans through all social media. The best way to connect and support Clayton would be to keep up with his new releases through social media as well as make it out to a live show to watch him play live.
