Today we’d like to introduce you to Colette Beckley.
Colette, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been an artist, that’s something that God blessed me with and it’s so ingrained in me that it’s become like a lense for everything that I do. I’m a Wife to an awesome, super supportive husband, and a Mom to 3 truly amazing kids. Like most moms, the majority of my life has been fully dedicated to serving my family, & I am beyond grateful for the ability to do that. Meanwhile, that artist spirit that’s inside of me was always pleading for a way to be utilized more often. I have been blessed to discover a completely inspiring love for the art of Lux Balloon Design. After being laid-off from my full-time, rather steady job, I felt like God was encouraging me to really pour myself into this and make it my career. With the encouragement & support of my family, l’ve been able to turn my passion for art into a business where I get to create something new, beautiful, and unique, everyday! And thankfully, my business has been growing steadily for over a year, now. Besides being able to design and install epic balloon features, I love designing & creating custom backdrops, cake toppers party favors, custom signage etc. I enjoy gathering general ideas or themes that my clients have, and translating them in a super special and really detailed way! I love drawing on inspiration from nature (God is the ultimate artist), movies, sports, fashion and music! I enjoy finding showstopping color combos that make you feel completely immersed in the intended theme. I also love mixing different textures and mediums to create a unique, personalized, visual centerpiece that is sure to bring your event to life!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve allowed myself to enjoy the process of growing the business by trusting that God is going to take it where He sees fit. I believe that as long as I do the work and keep Him at the center, He will handle the rest. This has really given me the freedom to appreciate the organic growth without feeling the pressures of “keeping up” with anyone else in the industry. After my first full year, I’ve begun to learn when the super busy season will be, and also when it might be a bit slower. So I’ve been navigating how to balance that, pushing through the busyness, while staying organized, and then taking advantage of slower times to reset and work on specific areas of the business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think that my art background really sets my work apart because I just see things in a different way. I actually love what I do, so I’m constantly trying new things and always eager to learn more! I have definitely begun to develop a unique style that I think my clients notice and can appreciate, which keeps them coming back and trusting me. I love to go above and beyond to make sure that my client’s event is special. I genuinely enjoy being a part of people’s celebrations, and it’s important to me that they know and feel that everything that I create is customized with them & their special event in mind!
