Life & Work with Courtney Jay Slater of Plano – North Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Jay Slater

Hi Courtney Jay, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in real estate with a background in health, wellness, and fitness, where my passion for helping people reach their goals was always at the forefront. I loved supporting others on their journey to better health, but as life got busier with my kids’ sports activities, I found myself needing a career that offered more flexibility.

My oldest played soccer at TCU, and now my younger boys are active in basketball. I wanted a profession that would allow me to continue helping people while also giving me the time to be there for my boys. After having my twin boys, I decided it was time to go back to work. My husband suggested looking into real estate, and after some thorough research, I decided to take the plunge.

Since making the switch to real estate, I have never looked back. It has been an incredible journey, allowing me to blend my dedication to helping people with the flexibility I need to support my family. Being able to assist clients in finding their dream homes and achieving their real estate goals has been extremely rewarding, and I’m excited for what the future holds.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being a working mom comes with its own set of challenges, especially when entering the workforce after maternity leave and starting a new profession altogether. Balancing work and family life is never easy, but it’s a journey filled with growth and learning.

After having my twin boys, returning to work was both exciting and daunting. Transitioning into real estate, a field entirely new to me, presented unique challenges. Passing the exam was just the beginning; there was so much more to learn. From understanding market trends to mastering the nuances of negotiation and client relations, every transaction is a new experience with its own set of complexities.

The unpredictability of each transaction means there’s always something new to learn, which I find incredibly rewarding. It keeps me on my toes and constantly sharpens my skills. Despite the hurdles, I’m grateful for the continuous learning opportunities this career offers. It allows me to grow both personally and professionally while still being there for my boys.

Navigating this path has taught me resilience, adaptability, and the importance of a strong support system. It’s challenging, but it’s also deeply fulfilling, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’d love to share more about my work and what I specialize in. As a real estate professional, I blend my passion for health and fitness into my career, marketing myself as the “active lifestyle realtor.” This unique approach sets me apart from others in the industry.

I highlight anything active and fun for both singles and families, showcasing the best parks, schools, attractions, Pilates studios, donut shops, picnic spots, sports facilities and coffee shops and more in the area. I also focus on communities that promote an active lifestyle, emphasizing parks, trails, fitness centers, and lakes, as well as high walking and biking scores. My goal is to help my clients achieve their goals, whether they’re buying or selling a home.

Personally, I have a love for new construction, but I’m dedicated to helping my clients find their perfect home, no matter the location or price point. One of my greatest strengths is my patience and negotiation skills. I don’t get rattled easily, which is essential in this field.

What I’m most proud of is how I can bring together my interests and expertise to provide a unique and personalized experience for my clients. Helping them find a home that fits their lifestyle and seeing them happy and settled is incredibly rewarding.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy? A few things bring genuine joy and fulfillment to my life. First and foremost, my faith in God provides me with strength, guidance, and a profound sense of purpose. My health is also a cornerstone of my happiness, enabling me to stay active, enjoy life, and take care of my loved ones.

Family is at the heart of everything I do. Spending quality time with my husband and children, supporting them in their activities, and creating lasting memories together brings me immense joy and fulfillment.

Additionally, fulfilling my purpose in life by helping others is a significant source of happiness for me. I believe that using my God-given gifts and talents to support and guide people is what I am meant to do. Whether it’s through my real estate career or other aspects of my life, helping clients find their perfect home and achieve their dreams is incredibly rewarding. Being able to make a positive impact in their lives brings me great satisfaction and happiness every day.
