Life & Work with David Duff of Haltom City

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Duff

David, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started back with company back in 1997 as a Re-order sales representative. Soon after I wrote all the sales presentations, product descriptions and took over training for the department. As my department expanded I was awarded 10% ownership of the company and then a few later an additional 20%. In 2008 I bought the company. The first thing I did was to bring all production that was subbed out to other companies, back to us so we can have control. This meant buying equipment, software and more trained staff .

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I bought the company in August of 2008 and the market crashed a few months later. We were heavy in the construction trades selling safety apparel and more and the next shoe to drop was the housing bubble. Our first website was made through a site that was a bid for hire which ended up being made over seas. I found out quickly I was better salesman then website creator. It took forever and they nickeled and dime me.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I studied and practiced to be a real good salesperson. Since I was 19 years old I was a commission only sales person and at 23 I moved to Texas from California. I lead by example, I was taught ” Speed of the boss… speed of the crew if they see you work hard they will too”

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I have learned how to turn off and on the salesman in me, if I hadn’t I would never have gotten married LOL
Nothing is more annoying than someone who is always trying to sell you.
