Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrell Ealim.
Hi Derrell, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My real name is Derrell I go by Sketch. I’m a visual artist. I been drawing and creating since I was a kid. Through the years I’ve always found ways to express my creativity by the way I dress or the way I talk. A few years ago I decided to make the leap into becoming a full time artist.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not an easy road, but I knew what I was getting into when I made the decision to go down this path. It’s a lot of work I’m not afraid to put the work in. I feel like too many people now days say they want something but don’t want to put the effort into said goal. It’s a lot sleepless nights, a lot of consistent planning. I’m constantly working and re working things just to make sure it’s my best. I feel like right now in this moment in my life I’m only surrounding myself with people who are actively pursuing their goals and achieving them.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a cartoonist/ illustrator and graffiti artist I’m currently working on my own series Trillcatz it’s 3 cats trying to make it as successful independent rap artist. I created this series because I felt like it was a divide between people who are fans of the art of music and love the music and people who are fans of the numbers and how stuff looks. And I wanted to create a series passionate about music hiphop particularly again. I really want Trillcatz to feel real and authentic when they see this.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Honestly I really can’t say if I been having good luck or I’m just starting to be recognized by my hard-work that I’m constantly putting in. I will say whatever good doses come my way it may not come in the way that I wanted sometimes, but I’m learning to appreciate and accept it and keep putting the work in.
