Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Adams.
Hi Destiny, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Grand Rapids, Mi and moved to North Dallas in 2021. I started my entrepreneurial journey in 2016 selling hair from my website and offering same-day delivery to the women in my city. I partnered with local beauty salons and hairdressers to supply hair to their clients. I used the majority of the funds early on to invest in quality branding and marketing. I started doing pop-up shops in the neighboring cities in West Michigan to grow my company. The early-on success from my hair business allowed me to open a hair boutique the following year. My hair boutique had 3 salon stations and bundles/wigs in stock for customers to shop in the store. I became very eager to learn and expand even more. In 2019, I traveled to Guangzhou, China to visit the Canton Fair and to meet with suppliers in person. So many people had questions about my journey, which led me to start my YouTube Channel.
Destiny Adams, The Traveling Hair Boss was birthed in January of 2020. My channel consisted of me telling my journey through the hair industry and helping new entrepreneurs start their business. I did not expect my channel to grow the way it did. My channel led me to getting brand sponsorships and landed me on CNBC’s Millennial Money. Throughout the past 2 years, I became a full-time business consultant, content creator, and influencer.
In September of 2021, I quit my career with Children’s Protective Services and traveled to Dallas soon after. My time in Dallas was perfect, so I decided to relocate. After moving to Dallas, I launched Travel Boss Tech, which is a line of travel assessors powered by solar energy.
I launched Iamdestinyadams.com as an extension to my YouTube channel where I provided one on one sessions for my subscribers to pick my brain and get assistance geared towards their goals. I assist with finding vendors, business plans, business credit, and travel planning assistance.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I rarely talk about this part of my journey, but when I started my entrepreneurial journey, I was working 2 jobs while running my business. I was still a part of the Michigan Army National Guard and working as Children’s Protective Services Investigator for the State of Michigan. Trying to juggle all 3 was a challenge. There were weekends where I had to tend to my army duties, while still managing my hair business. I relied a lot on my family and friends to help me through that time.
Being in the hair industry is a challenge in itself. There were times where I had to throw out a large portion of my inventory due to the hair not being up to par. In March of 2020, the governor of Michigan issued an order closing all of the salons due to covid-19. I used that time to focus on the online store portion of my hair business. I continued documenting my processes on YouTube. By the end of 2020, I decided to close my hair boutique and focus on my YouTube channel.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I believe my passion for helping others and my determination to success has played a huge part in my success. As an army veteran and college graduate, I have always worked hard to achieve my goals. My determination is what sets me apart.
