Today we’re excited to be connecting with Destiny Alexander again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Destiny, always such a pleasure connecting with you and thank you for sharing your stories, insights and inspiring messages with our community. We’re looking forward to getting the download and what you have been up to since our last interview, but first can you briefly introduce yourself to folks who might have missed the prior conversation.
Hi, I’m Destiny Alexander a designer and photographer based in Dallas, Tx. My brand is Pearl Moon Studio. Pearl Moon Studio is the house for all my creative endeavors. Through the studio, I capture life’s special moments with my photography and tell visual stories with my designs. The highlight of my journey so far has been costume designing my first play in 2024. I’ve wanted to be a costume designer since highschool and being able to realize that dream all these years later was amazing!
Awesome, so we reached out because we wanted to hear all about what you have been up to since we last connected.
Since we last connected, I officially started my company Pearl Moon Studio. In 2023, I was kept busy with photography work. I documented a ton of events, maternity sessions, and birthday photoshoots and even ran my first fundraiser called “Give Her Flowers” to raise funds for Redeemed Women, a non profit that helps women in need of resources in the DFW area and beyond. “Give Her Flowers” was a way for me to connect my craft/design skills with my photography to celebrate women in my life and their beauty. I made floral pieces for my muses to wear during our photo sessions. It was exciting work and I plan to bring the campaign back again this year to hopefully raise more money. At the end of 2023, I got a great opportunity to be the costume designer for Dallas Black Canvas’ production of “Dream Girls” at The Black Academy of Arts and Letters here in Dallas. That project carried me into 2024 and the big show was in March for one night only. Working on “Dream Girls” was a dream come true. Not only do I love the story but I am also a huge fan of the OG designer Bob Mackie who costumed the original Broadway production. Now although it was a dream to work on “Dream Girls” it was also stressful. I was still working full time at my corporate job while dressing the entire cast by myself. I wanted to have a team or an assistant but production couldn’t cover it. During that project, I was only getting 4 hours of sleep a day, waking up at 4am to make costumes, going to thrift stores and fabric stores on my lunch break, and spending hours sourcing items online, but I pulled it off and it was so rewarding. At the end of it all, I had lost 10lbs and so much sleep, so I decided to take a break the next few months to rest. During that time, I got pregnant with our 2nd child and decided to take the rest of the year to just enjoy my pregnancy and take care of myself. My baby was born December 2024, right before Christmas. I felt that would be the perfect time for me to make a transition. As a mom of 2 now I knew that I didn’t want to waste any more time not doing what I love and was called to do so I quit my corporate job at the end of January 2025 and am now pursuing a career as a costume designer and artist full time.

I’m writing a poetry book right now and plan to self publish it this year so I’m excited about that as well. I’m excited about sharing more of my art with the world and see where that can take me and Pearl Moon Studio.
