Today we’d like to introduce you to Diana Sandoval.
Hi Diana, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
How did I start as a Hair and Makeup Artist? Wow! It’s been quite the Journey! Makeup and Hairstyling has been a passion of mine since the age of 15. The beauty behind the transformation in someone has always amazed me! high school friends would always ask me to do their Makeup, Hair or Brows. I was there for it! It wasn’t until the age of 25 when my sister and one of my biggest supporters decided to set up an appointment at a beauty school. I was not very excited! Little did I know that was the start of my career as a Hair and Makeup Artist. It was definitely a challenge to get through school, I had three little ones, and my husband was working 2 jobs to support our Family. At one point, I was about to call it quits! I thank god for my husband, whom continued to encourage me and support me. Eventually, I graduated beauty school and became a license cosmetologist in 2016. Being a new Artist in a very competitive industry made it very hard to Find and Book Clients. It was a challenge! I would only book a handful of clients in One Year. I was so discouraged that I decided to take some time off from the industry and focus on my family instead. After taking 2 years off, I decided that it was time for me to return back to the beauty industry, and this time I was committed to making the Best of it. I started working at a hair salon doing blowouts. I worked there for about 4 years and met many wonderful people; some even became very good friends. It was such a great experience, but it was time for me to move on and put myself “out there “. In 2022 I was introduced to a wonderful Beauty Team (The Glam Beauty Lab) by my colleague and very close friend of mine. I officially became part of the team by summer of 2022, and let me tell ya’ Best decision ever! I was now seeing growth and recognition for my work. This year has been one of the most incredible years! My colleague Eymi Faz and I also had the honor to provide Hair and Makeup for Miss Expo 2023 which will be displayed on the front cover of Quinceanera Magazine. This was a huge accomplishment! Working along with some of the most Talented and well-known Hair and Makeup Artists has been such an honor. I can proudly say I have worked so hard to be where I am today. This journey has been CHALLENGING and AMAZING, to say the least but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I cannot wait to see what the future holds!!!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. It has actually been quite a challenge. I had many obstacles along the way. One of the hardest things for me at the time was not having my family, parents, and siblings close by to help out with my children. I would have to drive 45 minutes to an hour every day to drop off my babies at my parents’ house so I could go to school and clock in the hours that I needed to graduate. I had many other little things that made it challenging, but this was for me my biggest struggle.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I Provide Services for everyone and everything. Quinceaneras, Bridal, Gatherings, Photoshoots, Homecoming, Prom, etc. But I mostly specialize in Quinceanera and Bridal.
My makeup is mostly known for being soft and natural but also enough to make you look like a more beautiful version of yourself.
I am most proud of the accomplishments I’ve made throughout my Career.
We’d love to hear about what you think about risk-taking.
Even though others won’t view it as a risk, for me it was. I know! it sounds absurd, right!?! This was my mentality at that time! The “risk” I took was to join other Beauty Teams. I thought that by joining other teams, I was going to lose my clients or potential clients if I was to booked with them. I was WRONG!!! It was, in fact, the best decision ever! So, if you’re doubting about taking “that risk”, just take it. It doesn’t hurt to try. You can always go back instead of wondering about the ” What if.”
