Life & Work with Donnica Houston of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Donnica Houston

Hi Donnica, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Donnica Houston and I wear many hats in both my personal and professional life. First and foremost, I am a proud mother, guiding and supporting my children through their journeys in life. Professionally, I work in property management, where I help clients and tenants navigate the complexities of real estate, ensuring everything runs smoothly.

Beyond my career, I am deeply passionate about giving back to my community. I volunteer at my church, where I find great fulfillment in serving others. I am also honored to lead the women’s ministry, where I help empower and uplift women, fostering a supportive environment for growth and connection.

Balancing these roles is a fulfilling challenge, and I am committed to making a positive impact wherever I can.

After living in Jacksonville Florida for 12 years after a bad divorce and a failed engagement I found myself living a life where I knew I was blessed but my soul became hardened from disappointments. I decided to obey the voice of God that said it was time for me to leave Florida behind and move back to Texas, only to find myself feeling those same trauma and woes I dealt with in Florida. Upon making the decision to relinquish control over my healing journey, I encountered my business partner and spouse whose clothing line is Paradise of G1fts. During our shared healing process following his recent divorce, the concept of Soft Gurl Anointing emerged. I truly didn’t know what it meant to have a partner who could be dominant but allow me to be a true lover girl and a soft girl in my faith journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road and also mustering up the faith to birth the vision of Soft Gurl Anointing
It hasn’t been absolutely smooth I would say we have faced many challenges some financial and some personal with staying focused and birthing out the true concept of Soft Gurl Anointing. With the recent blending of our families and also challenges with having to care for my mother who has been diagnosed with Lupus since 2009 sometimes causes delay or distractions with completing the task. Some days you get discouraged especially when you see so many people doing the same thing and I constantly have to pray and ask God to set my journey and clothing line apart. You know people do not always want to support things that have to do with God or being different or set apart so just having the faith to believe that you are doing the right thing can be a challenge in itself.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Soft Gurl Anointing is a clothing brand born from strength, resilience, and divine restoration. It is truly dedicated to women who have faced life’s toughest trials and emerged, not only surviving but thriving in God’s grace. Our mission is to celebrate the beauty that blossoms from healing—where softness meets power, and faith meets fashion. As I said before Soft Gurl Anointing was created from a vision of myself after overcoming trials and walking into my promise land of sweet and soft aromas of life after facing such hard times and developing bitterness towards what I knew God had promised me for my life.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I like most about Dallas Texas is the culture, and everyone here you meet has some type of story of thriving and overcoming. What I dislike the most is probably the traffic it sometimes take you hours to get somewhere that should’ve taken 20 mins, but I moved here about a year and a half ago and being around family and having a tribe that can support me in this time of stepping out on faith and doing something amazing has been such a huge blessing!
