

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Amaya.
Hi Gabriel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
Frida’s Tacolandia Restaurant was first established in March 2018; this all was a dream that was originally started by my Business Partner’s head. We both cashed out our 401k and invested into setting up this small restaurant. We put some money on the side for the upcoming moths and any emergency, we went through some rough situation including Covid-19. With the help of our customers, family members, and friends, we were able to stay afloat and keep the business going despite losing more than 80% of our sales.
As of today, our small dream is still alive and blooming, and all of this is thanks to our lovely customers, who are supporting us day by day.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has NOT been smooth at all, the first challenge we had was the area where we first started, crime started rising and customers stopped showing up at our doors. Second major issue was Covid-19. It almost shut us down, Luckily the support from our families, customers and friends kept us going. Eventually, we were able to open a second location to which we were thrilled to have. A year later, things got rough with our first location, and we had to close it down.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m coming from a banking background and business management. That definitely helped us better manage the business aspect. And my business partner has an extensive knowledge in the culinary arts, therefore he takes care of all the cooking and recipes for each one of our delicious meals we offer.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
This restaurant started off as a dream. We both started a whole new adventure without the knowledge in running a restaurant. Our backgrounds help us understand and manage the food industry, and 6 years later, we are still selling our delicious meals, especially our now famous “Birria Tacos.”
