Today we’d like to introduce you to Halston Gaines.
Halston, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Back around 2017/2018, when I was a recording artist, I decided to invest in camera equipment to save on hiring videographers. The idea was simple: film my own content and maintain creative control. However, I quickly realized that filming myself was more challenging than expected, and the plan didn’t quite work out as I had hoped. Instead of letting the equipment sit idle, I decided to pick up the camera and start filming other people. That decision opened a whole new creative path for me. Since then, I’ve recorded music videos, commercials, podcasts, testimonials, weddings, and now I’m diving into the world of filmmaking with my first short film in progress.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey into video production has been far from easy. Initially, I got into it for the money, mainly because I already had the equipment. But when the money didn’t come in as expected, I found myself discouraged and on the verge of giving up. My lack of consistency didn’t help either, and it was a real struggle to keep going. Another major challenge was understanding my value. Knowing what I was worth but never truly receiving it made the process even harder. It was tough to stay motivated when the effort I put in didn’t always align with the recognition or rewards I deserved.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a videographer, photographer, writer, music producer and engineer, and graphic designer. Among all my skills, I specialize in beat production, which is another area I’m well-known for. What I’m most proud of is being a one-stop shop for businesses and artists, offering a wide range of creative services all in one place. What sets me apart is my creativity and versatility. Being multitalented allows me to approach every project with a unique perspective and deliver beyond expectations. I truly believe that once I connect with the right people, everything will fall into place, and the possibilities will be endless.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The quality I feel is most important to my success is versatility. Being able to adapt to different creative fields has allowed me to offer comprehensive solutions for clients and stand out. Lastly, persistence has been crucial. Staying consistent and pushing through challenges has taught me that success often comes to those who refuse to give up, no matter how tough the journey gets.
