Life & Work with Heather Davis of Rockwall Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Davis

Hi Heather , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
This is actually my 2nd career. My background is in marketing and it was difficult for me to work and find help with my kids when they were younger, they are teenagers now. I’ve always been interested in the beauty industry, dabbled in skincare, and just as I was looking to switch careers Microblading was really becoming popular. I ended up having my brows microbladed and decided after the first time that I wanted to get into Esthetics, specifically Permanent Makeup at that time. I ended up quitting my job shortly after that and went back to school to get certified in Microblading and Permanent Makeup. Not long after I started my business I expanded into skin care and esthetics. Today, 6 years later, I hold a dual licensure in Tattooing and Esthetics along with multiple certifications. I specialize in Permanent Cosmetics for eyebrows and eyeliner, and Esthetics, specifically anti-aging and acne skincare, facials – as well as, lash lifts/tints, and brow maintenance.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth. I think most business owners would agree though that the good outweighs the bad. I would say the most difficult thing I struggled with early on was comparison. As a an artist I’m my biggest critic. My type A personality makes me good at what I do but I’m also really hard on myself. I’ve had to learn how to give myself grace along the way. With that personality trait comes the inability to hold strong boundaries. It took me a long time to figure out that I could have boundaries and a successful business at the the same time. The work life balance is still a work in progress but I’m much better at it now than I was early on.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In PMU I specialize in hyper realistic, yet conservative artwork, specifically eyebrows and eyeliner. My goal for my clients is that they can wake up, run their errands, do their everyday activities and not feel like they need to apply their everyday makeup. The expectation for PMU, or my expectation for them, is that no one really know that they had a PMU procedure, but that they feel confident in their own skin.

As an Esthetician I specialize in skincare and skin health, specifically anti-aging and acne solutions. Within that realm I offer several facial packages for monthly or bi-monthly maintenance. I also provide clients with lash lifts and tints as well as brow maintenance, and offer multiple skincare lines for our clients specific skincare needs.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid was a difficult time for us in the beauty industry. In Texas we were required to shut down for several weeks and when we were allowed to return to work I wasn’t sure if I would have a clientele to return with me. It really taught me the importance for being prepared at anytime for the worst. That meant, at least in my line of work, forecasting clientele and minimizing overhead for the foreseeable future. However, Covid turned out to be a blessing in disguise for me. When masks became a requirement then the part of the face that was seen (brows, lashes) brought in a lot of new clientele. I also had they unique opportunity to meet new clientele that needed guidance with “maskne” or mask acne. It was an unforeseen benefit during such a difficult time in our industry. To this day I still have several clients that were brought to the salon by Covid.
