Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Boland.
Hi Henry, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Art has been a truly personal journey for me. I went through a bad divorce, had a lot of personal loss in my life, and needed an outlet for my creative energy that wasn’t self-destructive. One day I stopped into a local arts and craft store and bought some paint, a few brushes, and a canvas. I took them home and started to paint. I painted things I loved, things that made me happy, and things that brought out my emotion. Eventually, I decided I wanted to share my art with people, and Heathen Art Co. was created.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth road? No, not at all, but well worth the journey. I never realized that releasing your art into the public light would create such a vulnerable feeling. Some people loved it, others hated it, and eventually, you come to realize that it just doesn’t f*cking matter. Each piece I create is something I love, a piece of me that I am sharing with the world. The biggest obstacle I have found is actually setting aside time to sit with my ideas and put those ideas on the canvas.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Art should make you feel something. Bring a smile to your face, a tug to your heart, or a thought to your brain. At Heathen Art Co. I want to make that possible for anyone who wants a custom piece or art for their home or office. I love clients who contact me with a bunch of ideas in their heads and I can translate that onto the canvas for them. There is no better feeling than knowing that piece is going to be hanging in their home and will hopefully add something positive to their environment.
