Life & Work with Henry Coke of Lake Highlands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Henry Coke.

Henry, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Always The Alibi (also abbreviated as ATA) is an Alternative Rock band based out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. The group’s current line-up consists of vocalist/guitarist Henry Coke, lead guitarist Matt Wilson, bassist Nick Di Biasio, and drummer Richard Muenckler.

Always The Alibi has released two EPs and eight singles. Their debut EP We Are Waiting received local acclaim reaching #1 on ReverbNation’s Dallas Alternative chart in 2012 and was also named “EP of the Year” by ‘The Music Enthusiast,’ Jordan Buford. This was all before frontman Henry Coke’s battle with brain cancer in 2013, which ultimately brought the band to a standstill.

After a complete and full recovery, ATA returned in 2016 ready to take back the time that was stolen. In recognition of Henry’s time spent fighting cancer, the sophomore EP was appropriately titled Reprieve and featured his very own radiation mask on the cover. With Grammy-nominated producer Chris “Frenchie” Smith at the helm, radio stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex took notice with regular airplay on 91.7 KXT, 97.1 The Eagle, KFTW 97.5 The Pirate, KTCU 88.7 The Choice, among many others in North Texas. The band’s recognition also began to grow internationally after the release of two music videos for the singles, “After All I’ve Done” and “Ain’t Another Girl.” The music video for “After All I’ve Done” has received over 25,000 views on YouTube and 32,000 downloads on the independent music website, Jamendo. “After All I’ve Done” has also been featured in the movie “Murder & Cocktails” which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime, Apple TV and Roku TV. “Ain’t Another Girl” also received praise among the gaming community, where the song was featured during the 2018 KeSPA Cup, an eSports tournament held in South Korea. The song is also featured in the online survival PC game, SCUM, which is expected to be released on console later next year.

Always The Alibi continues to make strides in 2025 while working on their first full-length album, which is expected to be released Spring 2026.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Things were going great until Henry’s brain tumor diagnose curbed the band’s momentum. Luckily, everything turned out okay, and the group was able to move forward with a new sense of gratitude.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
