Life & Work with Holly Lauck of Lewisville TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Lauck.

Hi Holly, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always been very creative and loved fashion and eclectic design, flowers, plants, and nature. My ultimate dream was to be an art teacher or own a flower shop,! Life had other plans for me, I had my first daughter when I was just 19 years old and had to get a big girl job and give up my creative dreams. Fast forward 25 years working in the dental
field full-time as a pediatric dental hygienist, and although I love the kids and what I do, I missed being able to express myself creatively. Pair this desire with my amazing husband who loves gardening and Boho Birdy (my plant shop) was born.

We’re a quirky little plant shop that’s all about cool vintage and repurposed planters and offbeat plants that are easy to care for. Creator of the famous plant bar where you can have fun dressing and decorating your new planty friend. We also do custom dressed plants and plant bar parties. From granny’s antique tea cups to funky disco balls, we’ve got the perfect thing for every plant lover.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not really!
We started out just doing farmers markets and things like that and it takes hours to load and unload hundreds of plants and vintage teapots etc. It’s difficult to set it up. It’s difficult to break it down and it’s backbreaking work.
Especially in the pouring rain!

Another challenge is just keeping the plants watered. We have three little shops and my husband is very thorough with the watering and treatment of the soil as some of our vintage pots do not have drainage, each shop probably takes over 2 hours to water and he also has a full-time job.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As my side hustle Boho Birdy is very fun and allows me to spend time carefully curating vintage pieces , thrifting, being creative with design and it brings me Joy. I think that what Boho Birdy is known for is probably our plant bar. The most popular ones are usually in the hanging disco balls and we can do any kind of specialization or theme that you want. Great gifts, great teacher appreciation items. Fun things! Great ladies night activities etc

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think that you make your own luck. I mean if you want to do something you have to chase it and work REALLY hard at it.

Bad things happen,Great things happen, The most important thing is just don’t give up
