Life & Work with Huey Cao

Today we’d like to introduce you to Huey Cao.

Huey Cao

Hi Huey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Huey Cao, and I was born in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. I came to the United States when I was three years old, and I grew up in North Dallas. Because of my background and where I grew up, having guidance and going to college was not something that was in the cards for me. I disliked where I grew up so much that in my junior year of high school, I made the decision to join the US Army, and I served for six years.

After leaving the Army, I bounced around from job to job until a friend of mine, Dominique, suggested that I apply for a roofing job. I took a chance and quit my current job to pursue this opportunity. I reached out to John Lotulelei, a former Dallas Cowboy and owner of Lotus Roofing, and have been with his company since as a sales representative.

One day, John asked me if I would like to run the company’s social media account. I was hesitant at first because I did not have any equipment. However, John offered to buy me whatever I needed, and he got me a drone and a camera. I started creating videos to cope with my depression and anxiety, and before I knew it, one of my videos went viral. From that point on, my career took off, and I’ve been managing the company’s social media ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Managing two careers while being a full-time dad and editing videos at home has been a constant struggle for me. It hasn’t been a smooth journey, but I know that all these hardships will build my perseverance and ultimately lead to success.

Juggling all these responsibilities has been challenging, but I have learned to prioritize my tasks and manage my time effectively. I try to be as efficient as possible during my work hours so that I can spend quality time with my children when I’m at home. However, there are times when I have to take work home, and editing videos can be a time-consuming process.

Despite the difficulties, I am determined to pursue both careers and be a present father to my children. I believe that with hard work and dedication, I can achieve my goals and provide a better future for my family.

In conclusion, managing multiple responsibilities is not easy, but I am willing to face the challenge and persevere. I know that all my efforts will pay off in the long run, and I am committed to being both a successful professional and a loving father to my children.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a Roof/Solar Rep at Lotus Leaks & Roof Restoration, I take pride in my job and the position I hold in the company. I find great satisfaction in helping homeowners with their roofing and solar needs, and I also enjoy flying the drone in between.

Being a Roof/Solar Rep requires a lot of dedication and hard work. It’s not just about selling our services but also about building relationships with our clients and ensuring their satisfaction. I take the time to listen to their concerns and needs so that I can provide the best solutions for them.

One of the things that I love about my job is flying the drone. It’s a unique and exciting way to inspect roofs and capture images that we can use to show our clients the condition of their roofs. It’s also a great tool for identifying leaks and other issues that may not be visible from the ground.

Overall, I feel proud and fulfilled in my job as a Roof/Solar Rep at Lotus Leaks & Roof Restoration. I am grateful for the opportunity to help homeowners and provide them with the best possible service. I am also excited to continue flying the drone and exploring new ways to improve our services and make our clients happy.

What makes you happy?
What makes me HAPPY? Being a father and honestly being recognized for my work in videography. Also having a supportive partner (Leslie Cortez)
