Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter Gregory.
Hi Hunter, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my career in 2013 at Crystal Clear Sound Studio, fully expecting to become a sound engineer. While working there, I started picking up a camera to photograph musicians in the studio—capturing moments between takes, the intensity of performance, and the quiet focus behind the music. That curiosity quickly turned into something bigger.
Not long after, I landed my first paid photography gig—earning nearly twice my weekly paycheck at the time. That moment was a turning point. It made it clear that visual storytelling was where I wanted to invest everything.
Since 2017, I’ve worked full-time behind the camera, building a career as a filmmaker and photographer. I’ve handled every part of the process—from shooting and directing to editing and final delivery—developing a deep understanding of both production and post-production. Only recently have I begun offloading select post-production tasks to a trusted team, allowing me to focus more deeply on creative direction and cinematography.
Storytelling has always been at the center of my work, shaped by a background in sound, an eye for emotion, and years of hands-on experience across every stage of the filmmaking process.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
With any business, nothing is easy or handed to you. You have to truly want it if you expect to turn it into a success story.
One of the biggest challenges has been staying consistently motivated day in and day out—especially on the post-production and administrative side of the business. The shooting is the fun part; that’s where the energy and excitement live. But the real work often happens behind the scenes. Editing long hours, managing clients, handling logistics, timelines, and follow-ups—those are the parts that test your discipline the most.
Learning to push through those moments, even when the creative spark isn’t there, has been just as important as developing my skills behind the camera. That balance between passion and persistence is what ultimately sustains a career in this industry.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in visual storytelling. Since 2016, my bread and butter has been wedding filmmaking, where I’ve had the opportunity to tell deeply personal stories through a cinematic lens. Along the way, my work has been recognized internationally, including nominations for Best Destination Wedding Film (2020) and Best Cinematography (2023) by Love Stories TV.
What I’m most proud of, however, is the trust my clients place in me—and my commitment to always delivering something meaningful and special for them. I take pride in the dedication I bring to every project, crafting elevated visuals that intentionally weave together story, emotion, and atmosphere.
That same approach has naturally led me into the world of commercial work beginning in 2020. As I continue to grow in this space, my goal is simple: to bring the same level of care, focus, and creative investment that defined my work in the wedding industry to every commercial client moving forward.
What sets me apart isn’t just technical skill. There are countless talented filmmakers working today—many just as good, if not better. Where I believe I edge out others is in my level of commitment. When I take on a long-form project, I fully lock in. For weeks at a time, the project becomes my world—obsessing over pacing, emotion, visuals, and details until everything feels right.
That level of immersion is where my best work comes from—and where stories truly come to life.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I strive to always be true to myself—whether it’s how I approach a project or how I work with clients behind the scenes. I trust my instincts, focusing on doing what’s right rather than what’s easy, and making decisions that genuinely reflect who I am and what my business stands for.
That authenticity guides everything I do, from creative direction to client relationships, and it’s what allows me to consistently deliver work I’m proud of.
