Today we’d like to introduce you to Ivy Moses.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story starts in Jr high, growing up in an African household, I’ve always been the “heavier” one out of my three sisters. I never really cared much about my appearance until Jr high. Before then it was big t shirts and jeans. Then came High School, where everything changed for me. I started spending more time after school with a couple from my church, babysitting etc. when the wife, Erika, and her sister, Ayanna, took me under their wings and truly opened my eyes to fashion. I’ll never forget them picking me up on a random Saturday morning and taking me to a local thrift store in Dallas. we spent the whole day going through the racks trying on clothes and playing with my style. That truly was a pivotal moment for me as a young girl who never had the opportunity to find or express my style. That moment shaped me a not only as a teen, but as a plus size girl who never saw herself in media.
To me fashion is more than a size, it’s more than a brand, it’s a form of expression, its being confident in your skin and like I always say, it’s “wearing the clothes and never letting the clothes wear you. “
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing in life comes easy, but I believe that’s a part of what makes this that much more rewarding. Being a creator is hard, but to be black, a woman and plus size makes this journey even harder. The truth is most brands don’t find the value in catering to all body types let alone all demographics. There have been many brands that I have pitched to that have low balled me, didn’t respond or simply didn’t cater to the plus size community. just like we are told growing up about being 10x better than our peers just to receive a fraction of the rewards, and acknowledgement, as a creator, model and stylist I have to work 10x harder for the pay I deserve, the opportunities I want etc.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a plus size fashion content creator, model and stylist. I’m known for my bold colorful looks, eclectic style and free spirit, also know to crack a joke or two. I love to have a good time and I feel my style represent that.
I am most proud of the fact that, woman can come to my page, see me in person and see themselves in me, I love receiving messages or comments about people wearing things outside of their norm because “Ivy said so” and feeling confident in doing so.
What sets me apart from others is not just my confidence but how personable I am both online and with others, I don’t take myself to seriously, I like to laugh and have fun, in real life as I do online, and that comes across in how I dress.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is being put on a plan with my 2 older sisters the summer I entered second grade and going to visit my cousins in London. like more West Africans, specifically Ghanaians we have family all over but especially in the UK. outside of visiting family in Ghana, we had never traveled out of the country let alone done so on our own. it was such a special experience and something me and my sister will cherish forever.
