Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacobo Lopez
Hi Jacobo, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been an artistic kid. Ever since I was little, I’ve had a passion for anything creative, whether it was drawing, music, or playing around with cameras. I used to borrow my parents’ camera to make little YouTube videos, experimenting and teaching myself along the way. It was something I just genuinely enjoyed. When I got to high school, I was actually focused on soccer, but due to a medical condition, I had to step away from the sport. That moment was tough, but it ended up being a turning point. I decided to pick the camera back up, this time focusing on filming sports. It started as a hobby, but pretty quickly, I realized I was actually good at it. What started as filming my friends’ games evolved into something bigger, I turned it into my own business. People began hiring me for photos and videos, and I started getting invited to different events and games. After about a year, I had grown my Instagram following to over 10,000, and a lot of my videos were going viral. That exposure opened new doors, college and even professional athletes began recognizing my work and reaching out. Now at the age of 17 I’ve been fortunate enough to work with players from schools like OU, LSU, SMU, OSU, Mississippi State, and more. I’ve even had the chance to work with NFL players like Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott, which has been surreal. Recently, our team, the Celina Bobcats, won the 4A Division I State Championship in football, and I’ve continued to document every step of the journey. As I’m about to graduate high school, my goal is to take what I’ve built and continue it at the next level. I want to keep refining my craft, learn more, and challenge myself creatively. College, for me, is the next big step in continuing to do what I love.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some of the biggest struggles i’ve had to deal with include my health and how I manage to keep working hard with all the medical problems i’ve have in the past. Also building your own creative media business comes with a lot of expenses like camera equipment, computer, hard drives, and gas for traveling to different locations for work. I’ve had to save up and work hard to obtain these things but in the end it is all worth it because I do what I love and I also make my own money off of it. Though not talked about much, being a hispanic teen in this industry comes with a lot of judgement because people can chose to not take you seriously. Some clients have tried to take advantage of my age and appearance to receive certain benefits. People might not think I am experienced because of how young I am.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I created my own creative media business called Jacobo Lopez Studios (JL Studios) where I capture high school, college, and professional athletes and I create visually appealing content for them. I have also captured cars, weddings, senior portraits, and many more but I specialize in sports. I have grown my instagram following to over 10,000 followers and have caught the attention of many professional organizations and athletes. Not only that but I also have been able to get hired for many higher paying jobs that have benefited me. I am very proud of where I am today and all the connections I have made through out the past 3 years. What sets me apart from others is my creativity and ability to tell stories cinematically but also know when its time to hype a whole team up with an intense edit.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
Dallas is a wonderful city, I was born and raised here and wish to never leave. It’s a place that perfectly blends tradition with innovation, and you can feel that energy everywhere. Especially in the sports and media scenes. Over the past few years, the growth in Dallas has been incredible. Dallas really stands out to me by how it’s become a major player in the sports world. Home to iconic teams like the Cowboys, Mavericks, Stars, and FC Dallas. The media industry here is thriving, fueled by the city’s sports success, growing tech scene, and creative talent. There are more opportunities than ever for content creators, broadcasters, and storytellers here. Honestly the only things I do not like about Dallas is the traffic and bipolar weather but other than that its a really amazing place to live and work.
