Life & Work with Jasmine Horton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Horton.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am Jasmine Horton from Rockford, Illinois. I am new to the DFW area. I’m a mother of two beautiful daughters. I started my all-natural skincare brand, Kustom Kremes in 2014 after I was diagnosed with alopecia. I suffered from eczema since I was a child and I wanted to find a way to retain moisture for my scalp, as well as my skin. I love hand-making every single product! I do all of my own packaging, labeling, testing, shipping, and marketing. I was a social media manager for years, and lovemaking and posting videos on social media. I currently sell my products in my hometown Rockford, Illinois at the Circle of Wellness spa, 3626 E. State Street. I also have been an Etsy shop for over 7 years.

I am currently an esthetician student at Aveda Institute in Dallas, Texas. I will be a licensed esthetician this July of 2022! I moved my family to Dallas for a fresh start and to start my journey to become an esthetician so I can be completely educated on skin, work on bettering each person’s skin that I touch, and be able to better formulate my products. I love my hometown Rockford but the opportunities seemed limited so I chose to move and expand my knowledge, education, and resources for me and my kids.

I also own Jazz Styles Home. My new interior decorating business. I offer personal shopping, residential & business styling. I also offer virtual styling at affordable rates. I started my interior decorating business in December of 2020, and all of my current and previous clients are satisfied.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been tough for me I grew up not wanting for anything, but also not having much. My parents were both there for me but we made a way out of no way. My transition to Texas was the most invigorating but stressful time of my life. I turned nos into yes’s and I’m still figuring out my path as I go. I am currently unemployed and paying my way through school out of pocket so it’s definitely difficult but it’s not impossible because I’m doing it. I’m showing my girls that anything is possible and that we never have to settle. I’m very proud of that.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most known for my all-natural and organic body butters, body scrubs, and oils from my company Kustom Kremes. I have sold my body products for over 7 years now.

I am currently most excited about interior decorating! I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I’m completely in my element when I’m decorating or shopping with a vision of decorating.

I absolutely enjoy learning skin health at Aveda! Knowing that I will be a licensed esthetician is amazing. Knowing that I’m taking steps to make my products better for my current and potential market makes me happier than ever.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc.?
I am a social media junkie so I love the motivation and creativity of TikTok, the fast pace and visibility of Instagram, and the longevity and options that Facebook gives me.
