Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenn Beene
Hi Jenn, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into the world of photography began during my freshman year in college. Enrolling in an old-school black-and-white film class, I discovered the magic of the dark room. The artistic and technical aspect of photography captivated me by providing an outlet for the myriad images swirling in my mind. It was then that I knew I wanted to be a photographer, though I was uncertain about which direction to take or if I could make a living from it.
Fast forward past college, my path became clearer as I sought out a mentorship and experienced my own heartbreak of less than pleasing wedding photos. This opportunity led to further education and the technical mastery of my craft. It was also during this time that I discovered the enchanting world of portraits and, most importantly, wedding photography.
Every aspect of wedding photography excites me. From capturing the intimate moments and emotions to documenting the beauty and joy of the day, I find immense fulfillment in preserving these cherished memories for couples. Each wedding offers a unique story, and being part of such a significant day in people’s lives is an honor.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey to becoming a professional photographer has been anything but smooth. Along the way, I faced numerous challenges that tested my grit and determination. From problem solving technical difficulties on the fly to the uncertainties of finding my own niche in the vast world of photographers, there were many hurdles to overcome and I am still evolving.
One of the significant struggles was learning to wear many hats as a business owner. I needed to not only know how to take photos good enough for clients to want to purchase but how do I advertise on a zero budget to get clients to book an appointment. Additionally, how do I purchase the right equipment with so many options.
Despite these obstacles, each struggle provided valuable lessons and strengthened my commitment to my craft. Overcoming these challenges has made the successes even more rewarding and has shaped me into the photographer I am today.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am particularly known for capturing colorful, creative, and unique portraits, ranging from wedding couples to toddlers. One of my favorite elements to showcase is the sky, highlighting its vastness and vibrant colors at all times of the day. This adds a unique and dynamic backdrop to my photos, enhancing their visual appeal and emotional impact. An essential part of my professional aesthetic is my purple hair, which has become a signature look. It reflects my creative spirit and helps me connect with clients.
One of the aspects of my work that I am most proud of is the trust and connection I build with my clients. With that type of relationship I am able to better capture candid moments and genuine emotions. Whether it’s the quiet anticipation before a ceremony or the joyful celebration of a baby’s milestone session, I aim to document these fleeting moments in a way that feels authentic and heartfelt.
What sets me apart from others is my dedication to continual learning and improvement my craft. I am always seeking new techniques, styles, and technologies to enhance my work.
Ultimately, my goal is to create images that not only freeze a moment in time but also resonate with my clients for years to come. I am constantly seeking to capture the perfect photo.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is multifaceted and goes beyond traditional measures of achievement. It’s about creating meaningful and lasting connections with my clients, capturing their stories in a way that resonates deeply with them. When clients look at their photos and are moved by the emotions and memories they evoke, that’s a true marker of success for me.
Additionally, success is about continual growth and learning. It’s important to push myself creatively and technically, always striving to improve and evolve as an artist. Success also means maintaining a balance between my professional and personal life, ensuring that my passion for photography enhances rather than detracts from my overall well-being.
Ultimately, success is about finding fulfillment in my work and knowing that I have made a positive impact on the lives of others through my photography.
