Today we’d like to introduce you to Johnny Geter III.
Johnny, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was an ex-track start who turned to training at the start of COVID, and now I also model. Back in college, I used to come up with my own workout plans and eventually help others. This then turned into me changing my major to corrective exercise performance enhancement, which I enjoyed. I continued to run and focused on making the Olympic standard. My junior year I ran a 20.56 200m time and I needed a 20.60 to make the standard. Unfortunately, I didn’t go because of my hamstring, but I continued to train in hopes of the next Olympic year. COVID hit and I had to turn to personal training which put running back. I started my own DBA called FitnFine and then opened a franchise with Camp Gladiator a little over a year later. While being a trainer I was given incredible opportunities to model for some dope companies and began to find a passion for modeling. Which turned into me taking a leap of faith and going to LA! Crazy to think I’m pursuing modeling/acting when my mental illness used to be so heavy for me.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. The toughest part was reminding myself I can. Coming from mental illness for me this was tough because of how often I’d tell myself “I can’t.” So, to continue to battle my own mindset while trying to encourage others to be their best, posing for a shot, or selling merchandise through a pose was TOUGH! In personal training clients come and go! So, one month I can be living on a high and the next down bad haha. Then with modeling, I’m not signed yet so getting booked can be tough sometimes, or even booking a photographer!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m most known for Fitness & Health. I told myself before I got into anything I want to do all things Fitness & Health. Not just personal training but modeling, self-care, body care, etc. and that’s exactly what I drove to do. I’m proud of the steps I took out on faith to go after the things I wanted. I shot with amazing people and companies, I’ve trained groups of people as large as 84 and as small as my 1on1 trainings, even blessed to be contacted by agencies, photographers, and producers that are interested to work! And what easily set me apart was my energy, personality, and character. Everyone has a pretty face and anyone can post but I had to figure out how can I make my post come alive and reach, how can I bring energy and life to my clients. And this honesty took me having to dive deeper and understand who I am as a person. Which was TOUGH! Me being my authentic self is what sets me apart and stand out from anyone else. BE YOU!
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My pastor is what helped me understand depths of the Bible I may have not understood or misread. Mentors that have open my eyes to doing things a different way. And meeting people that are also trainer/models and actors that helped me see things I wouldn’t before. And at the end of the day what’s working well for me is keeping my exclusivity. I’m usually to myself anyways so it’s not that hard to do so but I never realized how important it was till I came to LA.
