Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Minjares.
Hi Jonathan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started in my bedroom during my junior year of high school. With the help of my parents I bought some recording gear mainly to record myself for band during covid lockdown. As time went on I started making my own music and decided to pursue music composition in college at UNT. While in my first year at college I picked up a part time job at a local guitar center and that’s when my mindset about music really changed. I met a co-worker there who helped me get my first studio internship. It was there that I was really able to learn about production and engineering and hone in on my craft. Eventually I left and decided to pursue my own ventures throughout the DFW area. That journey led me to meet someone who was really formative in my career. His name is Sonic Major and he was the first professional in the industry that gave me a real shot. He let me work under him at The Greenroom providing me an opportunity to work with some amazing producers like 1sreal and amazing artists like Odeal and Madison Perrott. Most recently I have taken a post at the notorious Legacy Music Group working with an amazing staff and furthering my craft.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. There were many times in my journey where I had to take a step back and reevaluate my situation. Early on in my career my little brother ran away and shortly after that my uncle passed away. That combined with navigating the music industry and actually finding people who wanted to help made it very hard to find success. Luckily my family and friends have been very supportive by giving me the motivation I needed to keep going.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work as a producer/audio engineer specializing in RnB/Pop records. I’m mainly known for my work with Ezra Amara but have started working with artists like Madison Perrott and Odeal. Currently I’m working on album for Ezra Amara that we are planning a release for later this year. Other than that I offer a wide array of recording/mixing/mastering/production services for artists of all genres and backgrounds. What sets me apart from others is my ability to blend genres and sounds for whomever I am working with to achieve the sounds they need. Coming from a classical background and going into RnB I am able to blend all of my backgrounds together.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
First and foremost, my parents and brother have always advocated for my success and well being. Without their support I would have quit along time ago. Another impactful person is Sonic Major. He gave me my first real glimpse into how the music industry works and how I can make my place in it. He also provided me with guidance on how to move through the industry and keep true to who I am. Another impactful person was Ryan Fairbanks. He got me my first internship and first hands on experience working in a studio and he definitely unlocked a whole side of music for me that I did not know about. Last but not least are my friends. Every time I talked about quitting or pursing other careers they reassured me that I was on the right path and that I needed to keep working.
