Life & Work with Joy Walden

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joy Walden.

Joy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I found a passion for storytelling and the truth through my theatrical background. Going into college at UNT, I decided to pursue media because it is the primary medium for these things. I studied media arts, specifically film production. Throughout my set work, I discovered a new passion for leadership in the media industry.

I am now furthering that passion through a Master’s program in Management at A&M Commerce. I was blessed to be accepted into a wonderful internship my senior year of college at Arcpoint Studios in Fort Worth, which then lead me to be hired on as Chief Content Officer at Lone Star Stock. I am currently still working there and taking on other production coordination jobs around North Texas.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The world has thrown its fair share of obstacles, the biggest being COVID. It hit right as I entered the industry, so it was very hard to meet people, work hands-on, or even find motivation for simple tasks. That being said, I have been blessed with so much good as well; a fantastic internship at Arcpoint Studios, a job at Lone Star Stock immediately out of college, being hired on my first Feature film as Assistant Director at 21 years old, etc. It is hard to focus on the bad when God provides so much good.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in production coordination. I often work as a producer, production coordinator, assistant director, etc. I am proud of my ability to learn so much about the industry in such a short amount of time– I credit this to the wonderful, patient people God has placed in my life. I think what sets me apart is my drive for strong leadership. This means connecting genuinely with your team, knowing the value of encouragement and expectations, and taking responsibility for your faults and actions to learn and grow.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Compassion and Humility have been important to my success. Being able to be a genuine human helps connect to other people and learn as much as possible.
