Karolina Aguilar

Hi Karolina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Story of Boxcook

Boxcook started with a simple idea: creating memorable picnic setups. In the beginning, like many entrepreneurs, there was a natural fear of taking the first step. But I always tell others who want to start something new—focus on yourself, be the best version of yourself, and do it with passion and faith. With the help of God, and guided by the belief that success comes with hard work and love for what you do, Boxcook has grown into something much more.

We now specialize in proposal setups and private elopements, creating intimate and unforgettable experiences for our clients. I truly love my job, not only because of the creativity it allows but also because of the wonderful people I get to meet. Loving what you do is fundamental to growth, and delivering quality in everything is key to success.

Boxcook became a corporation this year (2024), but the journey began long before that. My passion for picnics started back in 2021, but it wasn’t until this year that I felt the time was right to turn it into a business. One of our proudest moments came four months ago when we organized our first out-of-state proposal event in Oklahoma, followed by another in Houston. It was a challenge—many people think decorating and setting up is easy, but there are always factors like weather and terrain to consider. These challenges are what make the experience unique, and we are here to handle everything, ensuring the client enjoys a stress-free, unforgettable service.

Recently, we’ve expanded our services to travel across the United States, and I’m proud of how far we’ve come. My advice to others: don’t wait for the perfect moment, make it happen with faith, passion, and a commitment to excellence. When you love what you do, and do it well, everything else falls into place.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been an easy journey, and like any business, there have been challenges along the way. One thing I always emphasize is that you must have a passion for what you do and genuinely enjoy the process. That passion is what sustains you through the tough times, and it’s what keeps you moving forward, even when things get complicated.

As the planner and the face of the business, there are moments where things can go wrong, and when they do, you’re the one responsible. You have to be prepared to take ownership and make things right. That’s the nature of being in charge, and it’s one of the biggest challenges in the business—whether it’s managing last-minute changes or handling unexpected issues.

One of the most difficult parts has been finding the right people to work with. Building a team that shares your vision and dedication can be hard, but it’s not impossible. It takes time, but when you find the right people, everything starts to fall into place.

At the end of the day, challenges will always exist, but when you truly love what you do and stay committed to doing it well, these obstacles become stepping stones toward growth and success.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At Boxcook, we specialize in creating memorable experiences through custom-designed picnic setups, proposal events, and private elopements. What sets us apart is our attention to detail and our ability to craft intimate, personalized events that resonate with each client’s unique vision. Every setup is designed with care, and we take pride in turning moments into unforgettable memories.

What I’m most proud of is the journey we’ve taken as a company—starting from simple picnic setups to expanding into proposals and elopements, and now being able to offer services across the U.S. The work we do is more than just about creating beautiful events; it’s about connecting with people and helping them celebrate their most special moments.

One thing that distinguishes me is my commitment to learning and growing every day. I’m known for being consistent with my social media content, which has played a huge role in growing my business. I’m constantly studying marketing strategies because the world of social media and marketing evolves daily, and it’s important to stay ahead. Above all, I leave everything in God’s hands, and I approach each event with love and passion. That’s what drives me, and I believe that when you do things with heart and dedication, success follows naturally.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Yes, I dedicate time to listening to podcasts that help me balance life and grow my business. I often tune into podcasts by entrepreneurs I admire, including well-known figures like Elon Musk and some inspiring local micro-entrepreneurs here in Dallas. I believe it’s important to learn from people who are where you want to be, and taking their advice is invaluable.

As for books, one of my favorites is the Spanish version of “Lo Difícil de las Cosas Difíciles” (“The Hard Thing About Hard Things”). I typically read in Spanish, and this book has been incredibly helpful, especially in understanding the realities of building and running a business.
