Life & Work with Kay Dudley of Allen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kay Dudley.

Hi Kay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Tay: We’ve always loved our “starting out” story because it shows how we worked for what we have now! And even more so, how we made it with no experience, no marketing degree, and no special social media skills! We were just having fun and seeing where it would go.

Kay: One thing I have to explain first is a tradition we do every holiday season. Tay, my brother Rilon, and my daughter Kinsley always make a little “movie” while we’re visiting my mom. They write a script, act it out, and then premiere it to all of us before the trip ends.

Tay: It became a fun way to stay entertained during all the downtime over holiday break.

Kay: Like always, they finished their movie and showed it to everyone. It was great. On the drive home, Tay was still in his editing mood from working on the movie. I had just downloaded TikTok because a friend convinced me to get it so she could send me videos. We thought it would be fun to make a road trip video, and Tay could edit it and post it to TikTok.

Tay: We didn’t care about going viral or gaining a following. We just thought it would be fun to make a video and share it.

Kay: So we filmed it, posted it, and then watched the views start to come in! I think it got about six views. But we were still proud of it and loved how it turned out.

Tay: New Year’s was right around the corner, so we made a resolution to post one video every day. It felt like a fun challenge, something we could do together. It gave us a way to bond, stay creative, and try something new. And this is where it led us!.

Kay: A month or so after posting daily, we set a goal to have 10k followers on TikTok by the end of the first year, and on New Years of that following year we reached 1 million!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Tay: When we first started out, we were both working full time while juggling a cross-country move and adjusting to a new place. So the biggest challenge at the beginning was definitely time.

Kay: Our content looked really different back then. We were doing lip syncs, hopping on trends, and using popular sounds on TikTok. So we would actually schedule time to film and knock out as many videos as we could in one sitting.

Tay: Then, whenever I had a free moment, usually late at night, I’d sit down and edit everything so we’d have something ready to post. We were committed to posting one video every day no matter what.

Kay: Time has always been the hardest part. It’s a lot more manageable now since I do this full time, and Tay has a job with a flexible schedule that lets him work as much or as little as he wants.

Tay: It also helps that our content has shifted. We’re no longer focused on trends or sounds. Now it’s more about sharing real moments from our day. So whatever we end up doing that day usually shapes the video.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Tay: For our work, we focus on sharing our life in a genuine way! Whatever journey we are on, we take everyone on the adventure with us! We post daily to TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, etc. and anyone can tune in as often as they want! The videos are always there, so you can always binge them in order to catch up! We still hold true to the video per day! So you can always expect something to be uploaded every day about our daily adventures!

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
