Life & Work with Kellie Kay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kellie Kay.

Kellie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started a full-time Wedding Photography business in 2019 with my fiancé & lead videographer, we realized early 2019 that we could create a structured and organized business that would be successful. I personally wanted this whole process to be very easy for couples and I wanted photography to be the least stressful part of their journey to marriage, I really do have the best intentions for couples and people who come to us and I want them to start their lives together with images that remind them why love is important.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A big part of business is that you learn to take the different waves and surf them, struggles are just a part of it. I’ve been saying for YEARS if you come to me with a problem, I will come to you with a solution and not every solution will be an easy one, either. I feel like if I let myself be overcome with problems and no solutions that nothing will ever get done so I try my best to use my hyper-creative brain to create understanding and have empathy in every situation. I am a very emotionally driven person and sometimes it’s hard for me to disconnect emotionally from photography and see it as a full-time career and careers need boundaries. I feel that I have found a really great flow in my life by taking everything in strides and just being honest with what I will and won’t do and because of that, my career path has never been more clear and enjoyable even with the struggles.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My primary work as a photographer is Wedding Photography, although I love to dip my biscuit in many gravies. I really love many genres of photography and it has always been hard to stick with just one, so I do major events, some food, and concept portraits when I can. We pride ourselves on our lowlight capabilities and work hard to create dynamic meaningful imagery.

What are your plans for the future?
Destination weddings are the goal! I would really love to do a lot more travel and take my family to amazing locations with me. One day we may open up a studio but I’m taking my time and enjoying the small rewards of owning a small business that I can pick up and take anywhere.
